Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Communications, the Social Media Manager will strategically amplify McGill University's voice, positioning it as a leading academic institution locally, nationally and worldwide. Manage the strategic deployment of McGill's central social media presence across all platforms, maximizing positive engagement and designing and executing highly tailored, targeted and successful social media campaigns.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Design and oversee the implementation of highly strategic social media initiatives aimed at generating positive engagement and amplifying McGill voices, successes, and news.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Proven ability to design and implement effective social media strategies and campaigns. Extensive experience and excellent communication and marketing skills in social media. Interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and in close collaboration with various stakeholders. Proven problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to keep pace with new technologies and adapt to best practices, regulatory changes and corporate standards. Excellent judgment, discretion and tact. Solid command of French and English, both orally and in writing.

- Manage McGill's central social media channels, strategically tailoring institutional approaches to various platforms, audiences, content, and goals
- Develop University-wide guidelines for social media activity undertaken by all Faculties and Units.
- Act as the principal advisor for social media practitioners University-wide, and mentor colleagues as appropriate.
- Leveraging a highly developed "news sense," manage and conduct strategic monitoring of traditional/social media content, and exercise a high level of judgment in advising senior leaders on responses and next steps where appropriate.
- Build and manage a strong network of social media professionals McGill-wide, and chair their monthly meetings.
- Create social media tools, strategies, protocols, etc., for deployment by Faculties and Units locally and by McGill's central social media team.
- Keep abreast of new platforms and tools as the social media landscape evolves, and drive changes to McGill's activities to capitalize upon emerging trends and technologies.
- As a full member of McGill's Emergency Operations Centre, play a key role in the University's gathering and distribution of vital information in urgent situations.
- Create and lead campaigns and engage key audiences to advance advocacy, student recruitment, student engagement, and other priorities.
- Maintain a high degree of engagement with key stakeholders across the campus community.
- Directly manage a team. Train, coach and provide guidance to staff. Participate in hiring and performance dialogue. Oversee and verify work.
