We are seeking an Animal Care Technician with a Veterinary Technician background to bring both skill sets, a passion for rescuing animals and a love for dogs and cats to our fast paced and dedicated Animal Care Team.

This position requires attention to detail, good decision making, the ability to work independently and good communication skills with volunteers, the public and co-workers.

This is a part time (25-32 hours a week) position. Shifts are 4-6 hours and hours range from 7:00am to 8:00 pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide food and water for dogs and cats;
  • exercise dogs and provide out of kennel potty breaks
  • washing dishes, laundry, dog yards, carriers, litter boxes, bedding and walkways.
  • Take inventory and stock necessary supplies.
  • Ensure dogs and cats that need medication are properly medicated.
  • Act as a liaison between Veterinarian and staff should a medical emergency arise. Monitor and record food intake, exercise and report observed medical or behavior issues.
  • Responsible for prescription refills.
  • Give vaccines when needed.
  • Assist with blood draws and handling of sick or injured cats or dogs.
  • Handle all animals humanely; correctly use safety equipment if necessary.
  • Adhere to all established workflows to ensure the needs of the animals, the department, and the organization are met.
  • Understand and adhere to all set cleaning, chemical, handling and safety procedures.

Job Requirement:

  • Animal handling experience other than your own animals is required.
  • Must have previously worked as veterinary technician, or trained as veterinary technician, and be comfortable handling sick or injured cats and dogs.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Ability to adapt to change and accept new duties within a fast-growing organization.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals within the organization and broader community.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

This position requires ability to lift 50 pounds and work a variety of physical tasks to take care of our wonderful animals.
