Canary Systems is an electronic hardware and software engineering firm specializing in mining and civil engineering-related monitoring and instrumentation applications. Projects include monitoring of open-pit and underground mines, earth and concrete dams, bridges, tunnels, and buildings. We operate in several markets including construction, mining, geotechnical, industrial, and public infrastructure.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resources Manager to join our team. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for all HR functions as detailed below and reports directly to the President.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership: provides leadership, guidance, and support for staff initiatives while ensuring adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and established procedures.
  • HRIS: Manages and maintains the organization's HRIS, including database administration, system customization, ongoing maintenance, user training, and organizational support.
  • Employee Relations: Collaborates with the President and organizational leaders to investigate staff complaints, ensuring a fair and impartial approach to employee relations. Maintains detailed documentation and oversees performance discussions and terminations. Plan and execute company events and other staff engagement activities.
  • Payroll Administration and Processing: Manage biweekly and monthly payroll processing for the U.S. and Canada. Verify the accuracy of timesheets and collaborate with managers to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Benefit Administration: Works with third parties to align plan designs with the company's needs. Ensures compliance with federal and state reporting requirements and manages the coordination of open enrollment processes.
  • Recruitment and Hiring: Collaborate with group leaders to assess and identify staffing needs, develop job postings, and utilize a variety of platforms to attract top talent for open positions. Facilitate onboarding and administering training through the company's learning management system and other training sessions.
  • Monthly Compliance and Process Improvement: Ensures compliance with state, local, and federal labor laws while overseeing the completion of all HR-related documentation for each entity. Collaborates with group leaders to ensure staff maintains up-to-date documentation and certifications. Regularly evaluates processes and engages in performance improvement initiatives.

Expertise Desired:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Human Resources
  • Talent Acquisition including writing job ads and conducting interviews.
  • Payroll Processing and Reporting
  • Employee Relations including difficult conversations, employee engagement
  • Benefits Administration including but not limited to health benefits, 401(k), STD, and LTD.
  • Performance Management including annual review cycles
