In this role, you will be developing the core software operating our additive manufacturing machines. Your scope will span controls, data acquisition, build logic, and in-situ monitoring. Your software will literally turn design into reality. You will be integral to our efforts to develop the most advanced rocket engines in the world. You will also contribute best in class in process monitoring solutions for data collection and automated analysis. You will have the opportunity to make an impact on the future of manufacturing at SpaceX.RESPONSIBILITIES:Architect and develop software for an advanced, production-scale metal 3D printing systemDevelop highly advanced software to power our additive manufacturing fleet at a true production scaleCollaborate with automation and controls engineers to connect software to motion and control systemsWork with our additive manufacturing engineers to improve our print process quality and speed via softwareDevelop production-ready control software and algorithms for the lasing systems in the printersWork closely with simulation and machine learning experts to link model outputs to software improvementsDeep dive into your users’ problems to find and create efficient solutionsWork closely with our production engineers and technicians to provide the best first principles solution to their needsParticipate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologiesReview code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency)BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline and 3+ years of software development experience; OR 5+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degreeExperience with writing production code in C++Experience with modern continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) toolsExperience working in a Linux environmentPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Master's or PhD in computer science, applied mathematics, or related fieldExperience with microcontrollers or FPGA computing hardwareReal-time embedded software development experienceExperience with industrial automation systems and roboticsCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay Range: Software Engineer/Level I: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year Software Engineer/Level II: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
