Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center (BMDACC) in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking an experienced patient-focused, academically-oriented surgeon as Head of the Division of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief to direct and advance all surgical specialties, develop scholarly programs for faculty including clinical and other research activities, and education. The position will be open following the retirement of Christopher M. Pezzi, MD, FACS, Adjunct Professor of Surgical Oncology, on September 30, 2024, after 35 years of distinguished practice. The Division Head will be responsible for all surgical clinical and academic services and quality of care, recruitment of Department Chairs, Section Chiefs, and faculty in all surgical specialties, faculty development, and fiscal oversight. The visionary leader will be an excellent physician and surgeon, possess refined communication skills, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and have the responsibility, authority, and support necessary to build a sustainable and renewable surgical service and actualize the future of integrated oncologic surgical care. The Division Head will * Be responsible for the strategic planning, budgeting, coordination, performance, and evaluation of all clinical, educational, academic, and research activities within the Division, thereby ensuring quality, efficient, and cost-effective patient care. * Be certified by a surgical specialty Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties and have, or be eligible for an unrestricted Florida Medical License, * Have a minimum of 7 10 years of clinical and leadership experiences. * Be recommended for an Adjunct appointment at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (UTMDACC) commensurate with clinical and academic achievements. * In collaboration with the Baptist MD Anderson Medical Director, align with UTMDACC and MD Anderson Cancer Network leadership regarding the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Surgery and surgery specialty programs * Report to the Medical Director and join a key clinical leadership team together with the Division Head of Cancer Medicine and Radiation Oncology. Since October 2015, BMDACC has provided comprehensive multidisciplinary integrated oncology services in Partnership with the nation s leading cancer center, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center through their Cancer Network , the institution s international program to elevate the quality of cancer care in communities throughout the United States and the world. Today the Baptist Health System in Jacksonville is one of five unique health systems in the United States to replicate MD Anderson s proven multidisciplinary model, and philosophy of cancer care, including integration of clinical trials to optimize all aspects of patient care. In September 2018, BMDACC moved into an iconic 9-story, 330,000 sq. ft. outpatient facility to provide state-of-the art treatment and subspecialty care, clinical research, and education in all areas of cancer medicine, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology/surgical subspecialties. To meet the needs of patients and families, the program has grown to include over 50 physicians (including 22 Surgeons) and 700 team members to provide prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and wellness / survivorship services in one location. In-patient care is provided on the same campus at the Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, a 500-bed tertiary hospital. BMDACC has quickly grown to became one of the larger cancer programs in Florida - ranking 4th for new cancer patients ( Florida Trend January 2024) - meeting the needs of this community and beyond. The Division Head will demonstrate a commitment to multidisciplinary oncology care, a history of clinical and academic accomplishment, proven skills in leadership, faculty recruitment and retention, and a level of achievement to warrant an Adjunct appointment in surgery or a surgical subspecialty at UTMDACC.
