As a Technical Sales Engineer specializing in Electric Power Generation (EPG) projects, your primary responsibility is to drive business growth by engaging electrical contractors, engineering firms and end-users within the Cleveland Brother's territory to understand their business needs, recommend Caterpillar equipment solutions, and provide high quality technical support throughout the entire project lifecycle. The Technical Sales Engineer is at the forefront of promoting and selling industrial electric power generation solutions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Engage Electrical Contractors Engineering Firms and End Users: Actively engage with engineering firms and end-users across Cleveland Brothers' territory to identify opportunities for standby, prime, and low energy projects.
- Develop Budgetary Proposals: Create budgetary proposals for both internal stakeholders and external customers, ensuring alignment with project requirements and financial objectives.
- Share Ideas and Customer Needs: Collaborate with customers throughout the product lifecycle phases, from planning and design to acquisition, installation, and service. Share insights and feedback to ensure customer needs are met effectively.
- Provide Technical Support: Offer high-quality technical support to establish and nurture long-term relationships with internal and external customers.
- Assist with Writing Electrical System Specs: Support consultants in writing electrical system specifications, defining equipment scopes, estimating lifecycle costs, and proposing extended warranties.
- Review Project Designs: Review project designs and recommend appropriate equipment solutions from the company and other manufacturers.
- Compile Tools for Efficiency: Develop and compile tools such as sizing calculators, starting guides, and maintenance resources to increase efficiency and speed of response to inquiries.
- Conduct Technical Presentations: Prepare and conduct technical/product presentations and demonstrations for consulting engineers and end-users. This includes organizing events such as lunch and learns and facilitating continuous education credits.
- Establish and Maintain Professional Relationships: Cultivate and maintain professional relationships within industry associations, participate in customer events, and represent the company at trade shows and conferences.
- Stay Abreast of Technology: Keep up-to-date with new technology developments and modifications to enhance proposals and add value to customer solutions.
- Attend Meetings and Training: Attend periodic dealer engineering influencer meetings, calls, and company training sessions to stay informed and aligned with company strategies and initiatives.
- Provide Emissions Compliance Support: Collaborate with the Power Systems environmental emissions champion to offer emissions compliance support to engineering firms, end-users, and other market groups.
Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
- Electrical design experience encompassing generator & uninterruptible power systems, combined heat power, low energy systems, biomass, automatic transfer switches, and switchgear. Demonstrated ability to read electrical schematics and drawings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering design & installation codes for generator systems, combined heat power systems, low energy BTU applications, biomass applications, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power supplies.
- Proven ability to identify, develop, and manage strategic relationships and opportunities within technical electrical systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate cross-functional teams as well as resolve conflicts from diverse perspectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and project management software.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- In-territory travel of up to 25% to customer/owner facilities.
