Leidos is hiring a Nuclear Weapons Policy Analyst in Washington, DC. As a policy analyst you will provide full-time support to the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA), Office of Defense Programs (NA-10). This includes executive-level support to the Nuclear Weapons Council (NWC) Executive Action Officer and working closely with key functional offices with DOE/NNSA, the Department of Defense, and interagency organizations.

You will work daily in the DOE Forrestal Building in Washington, DC. Telework options may be available, based on client needs and volume of classified work.

What You Will Do:
  • Research, draft, and review technical and programmatic briefings, point papers, narratives, analyses, and other products relevant to national/international policy. Ensure they are clear, relevant, accurate, and thoroughly convey complex program and technical issues for use in the NNSA decision-making process.
  • Communicate regularly with high-level officials within NNSA, the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of State, and other government agencies on programmatic issues of immediate interest.
  • Support programs and tools to identify emerging challenges impacting the nuclear security mission and inform decision-making.
  • Provide daily consultation/program management support for all nuclear weapons-related policy issues.
  • Review/comment on formal inquiries from Congress, members of the National Security Council (NSC), NATO office constituents, senior primary offices of record, etc., on matters relating to nuclear policy. Provide strategic policy-related communications support to ensure consistent messaging for senior leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Draft (or offer recommendations on) global threat assessments - research/develop talking points, point papers, touch points, and transcripts in response to related queries from Congress, NATO office constituents, etc.
  • Maintain a consistent dialogue with the NNSA Office of Policy, NSC staff, and NWC support staff within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (OASD)/Nuclear Matters.

Required Education, Experience & Clearance:
  • Active DOE Q clearance or active DoD Top Secret security clearance and the ability to obtain DOE SCI
  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of experience in a professional, academic, or public policy setting or a Master's degree and a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a professional, academic, or public policy setting
  • 2+ years of experience in the national security and/or nuclear weapons fields
  • General knowledge of NNSA organization and structure
  • Be capable of working in demanding environments related to political or national security matters
  • Exhibit superior oral and written communication skills
  • Possess the ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and assignments with limited oversight
  • Show initiative and have the ability to learn quickly
  • Be able to adapt to a constantly changing environment and be comfortable working independently and in team environment

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience as an action officer
  • Participation in a Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) program beneficial

Salary Range for this position: $100K to $124K

Pay Range: Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
