Role Summary:
This is a Principal level position as the Lead Safety Process and Compliance position in the System Safety and Validation team. This role has two major objectives: 1) Coordination, execution and documentation of the safety development process/practices and coordination of the overall compliance and homologation activities. 2) Serve as a subject matter expert for new and novel process automation measures to connect across the multiple domains levels of system development and tools in the development toolchain.

Compensation
Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training. In the city of Mountain View, California, the salary range for this position is $168,400 - 218,600.

Role Responsibilities:
Alignment of process and development activities:
- Responsible for leading process implementation activities for our internally and joint developed hardware and software components across the system
- Acts as single-point-of-contact for German team members for safety development process in the SDV Hub
- Locates and manages dependencies & logistics for process inefficiencies.
- Integrate and create tools to expedite or automate the speed at which work products are generated and managed
- Reviews and tailors the development process from a first principles perspective
- Manage and deliver process definition to achieve quality and safety governance needs.
Additional activities:
- Creation of relevant safety and process documentation, requirements, and reports.
- Reports the status to CARIAD stakeholders & management.
- Lead contract engineers on documentation activities (as needed).

Required Specialized Skills:
- Deep knowledge, understanding and hands on experience in multiple safety standards such as ISO 26262 / 21434 / 21448 / 15288 / 12207, IEC 61508, MIL STD 882, DO-178 etc.
- Hands-on experience in development of safety concepts for highly complex systems including coordination of safety process design to harmonize across multiple international standards with considerations for scalable design and coordination with assessment and certification in mind
- Proven track record in designing end to end development processes which have been audited/assessed by 3rd party experts and utilized for successful production
- Strong knowledge and experience in FMEDA, DFMEA, FMEA, HARA/HAZOP STPA, TARA and software failure analysis
- Experience with developing complex cyber-physical systems
- Experience in Safety management, traceability, analysis and tracking tools

Years of Relevant Experience:
- 12+ years of Safety Engineering industry experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in development of safety concepts for highly complex systems
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or related technical field
Desired Education:
- Master's Degree (or greater) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or related technical field
