Principal Engineer - Electrified Powertrain - Motor Design

We are recruiting a Principal Engineer for the detailed design and prototyping of electric motors. This includes structural and thermal analysis as well as CAD design for a variety of technologies. Design for manufacturing and assembly as well as the definition of virtual validation and physical testing plans is required. The role involves operating in a dynamic project environment including technical, commercial and customer management.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilizing state of the art simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop and prototype electric drive systems
- Developing new methods to solve industry problems, generating market leading solutions
- Responsible for the delivery of technical work packages and entire projects
- Leading by example, implementing technical processes to ensure they are executed to the highest quality when developing others in standards of drawings and technical reporting
- Managing multi-person/cross-functional projects to achieve budgeted margin and maintain an excellent relationship with customers, whilst being accountable to the operations board for their outcome
- Developing and maintaining strategic relationships on behalf of the function with key account responsibilities to maintain and build revenue streams in your sector
- Taking an active role in the professional development of others within the function
- An active stake holder in the Electrified Powertrain functions quality system, generating and developing technical and procedural capabilities and ensuring their continuous development
- Managing challenging proposals and quotes that define the strategy of the project while mitigating technical and commercial risks
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrable experience for the key elements of the role and responsibilities outlined above.
- Extensive experience of electrified design and analysis for all a wide breadth of traction motors applications, technologies and sizes
- A deep understanding of manufacturing techniques used for electric motors for prototype and series production.
- Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art materials and emerging technologies
- Experience in the analysis of electric machine attributes such as NVH, durability, thermal, etc.
- Understanding of associated transmission, power electronics and motor control strategies and how they affect motor performance and drive design decisions.
- Extensive experience in the test and development process required for the validation of electric machine hardware.
- A detailed understanding of HV safety standards and creepage and clearance design rules
- Experience in a system engineering environment.
- High standards when creating detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings using best practice geometric tolerances and relevant drawing standards
- An understanding of market trends and challenges and applications of existing technology within the industry
- A track record of innovation and creative problem solving.
- Developed a strong technical reputation and relationship with customers and suppliers.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- 1D and 3D fluid analysis including CFD or SPH
- Experience designing and developing multi-phase electric machines
