Summary: Catholic Charities Community Services, Archdiocese of New York, is seeking an experienced and talented Human Resources professional to join its leadership team as its Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO). The CHRO will be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of Catholic Charities’ strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent management, policy and change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and benefits and compensation. The CHRO provides strategic leadership by articulating HR needs and plans to the executive management team, shareholders and the board of directors. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is directly responsible for leading the Training & Development Manager, Recruitment Manager and HRIS Project Manager. This position will work directly with the Director of Human Resources. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Establish and implement HR policies and procedures that effectively communicate and support the Catholic Charites’ mission and strategic vision.
  • Function as a strategic advisor to the executive/senior management of each Division regarding key organizational and management issues.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources Director and the agency's executive management team to establish a sound plan of management succession that corresponds to the strategy and objectives of the organization.
  • Develop comprehensive and strategic recruiting and retention plans designed to meet the agency’s human capital needs and strategic goals by overseeing talent acquisition and internal career development and growth plans.
  • Keep abreast of non-profit social services compensation trends and other practices and assist in maintaining a competitive industry presence for the agency.

  • Evaluate and implement effective training and development programs for a more than 1000-person employee base.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of our HR procedures and tools and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective.

Education and/or Experience:
  • A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university; MBA or MA/MS in human resources or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of HR experience, with at least five years of executive HR experience and at least five years of international HR experience.
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification preferred.

  • Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer approximately 90% of the time.
  • Ability to work remotely as needed.
  • Frequently sit for long periods.
  • Travel for staff meetings 10% of the time using reliable transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs, and exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Traverse neighborhoods that may require a high level of alertness and awareness of surroundings.
  • May be deployed to other locations on an as needed basis.
This role requires in office attendance for the first 90 days before transitioning to a hybrid schedule. The salary range of $200,000 - 230,000 per year represents the low and high end of the salary for this role. It is based on various factors including but not limited to professional and academic experience, associated responsibilities, and other business and organizational needs. The range listed is one component of our total compensation package. Salary decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each hire.
