General Definition of Work The City of New Bern is seeking an organized, flexible, customer focused Recreation Specialist to coordinate and provide services offered in our brand new state-of-the-art Stanley A. White Recreation Center. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Opening/closing a recreation facility; registering participants; collecting fees; setting up of equipment and facility for programs and events. (The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Opens, closes and sets up facility for daily operation and events. Registers participants for activities and programs. Schedules facility reservations. Processes memberships. Performs daily fee collections. Sets up activity equipment such as tables, instruments, electronics, etc. Maintains and cleans recreation equipment and facilities. Assists with conducting sports, games, and events. Performs administrative tasks such as the completion of paperwork and answering telephones. Oversees part-time staff and volunteers. Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation including knowledge and proper use of equipment, techniques, rules, and regulations of programs for different age groups; skill in the operation of standard office and computer equipment including various software packages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public. Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in recreation, physical education, public administration, or a related field. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required. Possession of an appropriate Commercial Drivers License (P endorsement) valid in the State of North Carolina or ability to obtain within (6) months. Possession of First Aid/CPR certification required or must be obtained during the initial six (6) months of employment.
