POSITION SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate should possess over five years of experience in creating construction work packages for the electric distribution system, utilizing diverse software systems and construction standards. These distribution systems may operate in overhead (OH), underground (UG), or underground residential distribution (URD) environments. Project assignments could encompass grid enhancement and reliability, substation optimization, joint-use preparation, and street lighting projects. The development of work packages will involve the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client-specific systems. The preferred candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail in reviewing engineering designs for accuracy.
JOB FUNCTION:
- Lead a team of designers and engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
- Act as technical lead for engineers/designers to develop construction work packages including engineering calculations and constructability concerns; this will include training junior engineers and designers, and entry-level technicians
- Work under Engineering Manager to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget
- Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes; Communicate work progress, technical issues, and schedule with Client.
- Comply with Company safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
- Develop permitting documents for different AHJ’s
- Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field and forestry personnel, and 3rd party owners for joint-owned poles
- Travel to sites/Customer meetings as needed.
- Oversee onboarding, performance, and day-to-day assignments of direct reports
- Perform reviews (QAQC) of work by other engineers for submittal to Clients.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Requires BS Degree and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experienceperforming electric distribution design engineering for electric utilities;Candidates with a Bachelor's in an engineering discipline will be preferred
- Experience with and demonstrated proficiency in NESC Standards,
- Previous experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
- Some previous experience monitoring scopes and tracking work progress.
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel may be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates
- Experience with ESRI and GIS is preferred, but not required
- Prior team leadership experience is preferred
