This position can be located in Waltham, MA, Brooklyn, NY, Hicksville, NY, or Syracuse, NY (candidates may also reside in either Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Maine). This role is critical for ensuring the optimal design, implementation, and support of advanced infrastructure automation solutions. You'll foster innovation, knowledge-sharing, and the continuous improvement of infrastructure automation standards and best practices. This position requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to align infrastructure automation capabilities with the broader organizational goals, ensuring the reliability and security of critical and enterprise systems. Key responsibilities include the following:Establish the right standards:o    Define expected practices & guardrails and chapter member technical output based on industry best practices o    Ensure that infrastructure automation engineering aligns with National Grid’s future state blueprint and road map o    Review & manage Chapter Lead performanceDevelop the right skills:o    Map expected competencies & certifications o    Design career path including performance expectations and promotion criteria o    Partner with Learning and Development teams to design targeted training  o    Ensure personal and professional well-being of your teamDeliver the right capacity:o    Track supply of and aggregate demand for Chapter resources  o    Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure Chapter members are allocated to the most impactful Teams unlocking business value o    Collaborate with other Chapter Leads to facilitate career moves across Chapters for career growth & cross-training o    Develop a recruiting strategy for Chapter members and participate in recruiting process by making final hiring recommendationsManage / deliver for internal and external stakeholders:o    Demonstrate subject matter expertise in all areas of development and innovation in Chapter domain o    Ensure Platform Leads and other stakeholders know what resources and knowledge are available to them o    Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure Chapter members are allocated to the most impactful teams Infrastructure Automation Engineering Focus:o    Facilitate collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and best practice adoption across the infrastructure automation engineering community  o    Establish and promote frameworks and guidelines for the standardization of infrastructure architecture, design principles, and operational procedures o    Organize workshops, seminars, and training programs to upskill infrastructure engineering teams and keep them current on emerging trendsAbout youMaster's Degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, or a BS/BA degree or higher in a technical discipline Experience in strategic technology leadership, IT infrastructure, analytics, and outsourcing managementExperience leading, coaching, and developing people and teamsExperience with resource planning and allocation within and across organizationsProficiency in developing infrastructure automation solutions and implementing zero downtime techniques in Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments.Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, AWS CloudFormation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices.Experience with automating the management user accounts, groups, and permissions within Active Directory, including creating, modifying, and disabling user accounts, managing group memberships, and implementing role-based access control (RBAC).Proficiency in managing and automating Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security policies, manage user settings, and deploy software applications across the Active Directory environment.Exposure to deploying and managing Active Directory infrastructure, including domain controllers, sites, and organizational units (OUs).Knowledge of integrated development tools, including GitHub, for version control and collaborative development in infrastructure automation projects and methods such as RESTful APIs, JSON and integration platforms.Strong background in cloud networking approaches along with the ability to work within a regulated secure environment.Proficiency in using lightweight code editors like Visual Studio Code and distributed version control systems like Git for infrastructure automation development and collaboration.Understanding of software engineering best practices and design patterns relevant to infrastructure automation, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.Experience working in Agile methodologies such as SAFE, Scrum, or Kanban, for efficient and iterative infrastructure automation project management.Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, C#, SQL, Python, Power Platform (e.g. PowerShell, Automate, AI) for infrastructure automation tasks.Familiarity with Service Now and Microsoft Teams as interfaces.Understanding of cloud computing concepts and hands-on experience with Azure services (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networking) or AWS services.Experience with containerization tools and techniques and the ability to deploy and leverage them to achieve infrastructure automation tasks.More InformationAre you the right fit for this exciting role?
