Process Safety Engineer

The Process Safety Engineer will work within the Pilz Services team providing safety guidance to customers and direction on the components to be used in the recommended solutions.
The Process Safety Engineer will visit customer sites to perform Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, complete Risk Assessments, and provide safety reports. Process Safety Engineers will be able to review and understand mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams for various process equipment.
All Process Safety Engineers report to the Principal Safety Consultant.

All Process Safety Engineers report to the Principal Safety Consultant.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct varying types of Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments
- Review safety control circuits and calculate the safety performance levels (PLr=c, CAT 3)
- Read and interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, Cause and Effect charts, SAFE charts, Instrument diagrams, etc.
- Prepare, scribe, and write reports for Process Hazard Analysis (HAZOP, LOPA, What-if, FMEA, HAZID, etc.)
- Design and develop processes flow diagrams and P&IDs for electrochemical processes
- Evaluate existing designs and present recommendations
- Propose new safety instrumentation technologies for process control
- Review related safety procedures to ensure the well-being of employees who work with the different processes
- Participate in HAZOP activities
- Performing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) protocols, creating FAT reports, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) protocols, SAT reports,
- Provide process safety expertise and knowledge in both written and verbal communications
- Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable standards
- Provide weekly updates on current projects
- Provide sales support to Pilz Sales team as needed
- Prepare and review reports from Safety Consultants to ensure compliance with Pilz requirements
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates' degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical Engineering or similar program and one (1) to three (3) years of hands-on process experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read electrical/controls schematics; troubleshoot electrical/control circuits
- Solve and verify math formulas as established in IEC 61508 and ISO 13849
- Fluency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently as needed
- Willingness to learn Pilz products and procedures
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and team oriented
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Chemical Engineering
- Ability to read/analyze/interpret/write business reports and professional journals
- Familiar with safety standards such as ISO 13849 and ANSI B11
- Familiar with risk assessment process
- Competency in electrical controls with a focus in safety
