The Director of Development, West Region, (DOD) is a vital member of Georgetown's fundraising team, and will play a critical role building connectivity, engagement, and philanthropic support for the institution in the West, and most specifically in Northern California. This is an especially exciting time to join Georgetown University's Development team, as we are in the midst of our most ambitious campaign yet, Called to Be. The DOD West will work closely with university leadership, select faculty, and high level volunteer leaders and board members to advance Georgetown's priorities and build upon the strong foundation of current and prospective donors in the market. While the role's primary responsibility is managing a portfolio of donor relationships for Georgetown, they have an equally important mandate to advance Georgetown as a market leader, ensuring that Northern California and other western regions have thoughtful and strategic Georgetown presence and activity. It is crucial for this role to be a collaborative thought partner, and highly effective in leading the branding of Georgetown University in the market as a sophisticated and dynamic place for principal and transformative philanthropic partnerships. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Partner with Advancement colleagues to ensure all are educated and engaged in current philanthropic trends, models, and opportunities in the West Region in order to continuously innovate business.
- Qualify, cultivate, and actively manage a portfolio of approximately 100-120 major gift and planned giving prospects, traveling at least five days per month in order to meaningfully engage and cultivate a community of support.
- Working with annual metrics, make a minimum of 125 visits annually with current and prospective donors who are undergraduate alumni, current and former parents, and friends.
- Have an annual goal of raising $1-3M as the portfolio matures, being comfortable asking for five-, six- and, in time, seven-figure gifts.
- Maintain a focus on co-leading a regional philanthropic council, focusing on engaging and advancing our mission and institutional and campaign initiatives.
The DOD is a generalist representing all areas of Georgetown University's campuses and the campaign. They are expected to be nimble and donor-centric, educated in the content across the many academic units, programs, and initiatives. The portfolio and donor base this position routinely interacts with will undoubtedly have many points of interests and potential for philanthropic partnerships. Internally, the DOD will collaborate with a number of Advancement partners, most specifically Donor Engagement - curating and designing high level donor experiences, Board Operations, Stewardship, Strategic Initiatives, DATA/Prospect Management, and Alumni Engagement, as well as numerous partners on campus as mentioned earlier. This role must be team and relationship oriented, and enjoy balancing a number of stakeholders and partners.
