Job Summary
The Strategic Engagement Specialist is responsible for crafting and sharing CenCal Health's key messages in a clear and engaging manner. The specialist must be an excellent writer and understand how to carry out public relations, media relations, and social media tactics effectively. Their responsibilities encompass the creation of compelling and accurate narratives across multiple platforms, including media outlets, digital spaces, print media, and social networks, aimed at elevating CenCal Health's brand visibility and fostering meaningful connections with various audiences. Key functions of this role include the production of written materials, photography, videography, editing, and collaboration with departmental teams for the creation and execution of public relations and social media strategies. Additionally, the specialist ensures that all communications reflect CenCal Health's strategic objectives and adhere to regulatory standards. Serving as the primary liaison for public and media relations, the specialist is tasked with tailoring messages for a diverse range of stakeholders, both external and internal to the organization. This role requires working closely with team members and outside vendors to deliver timely and accurate content. The person in this position reports to the Director of Strategic Engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with the Department Director or an external public relations vendor to plan, execute, and measure engaging, strategic outward-facing public relations content including press releases campaign copy, and content that speaks to our external audiences (communities, community partners, and the public).
- Develops and implements public relations campaigns for community audiences, ensuring content conveys that CenCal Health as an inclusive and trusted partner at the forefront of local healthcare issues.
- Responsible for planning and implementing the creation of photos and videos. Tasks include securing participants, capturing photos and videos, designing storyboards and shot lists, conducting interviews, collecting quotes, editing, and obtaining media release forms.
- Develops and produces high-quality multimedia content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, social media posts, promotional materials, and content for CenCal Health's intranet.
- Maintains strong relationships with media contacts and supports efforts to secure media placements.
- Maintains and coordinates updates to web content for CenCal Health web pages that the Strategic Engagement Department manages.
- Supports the organization's social media activities, including writing, editing, reviewing, and providing content for the social media editorial calendars, and working with the social media lead for post development to Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, and other platforms.
- Develops an annual Community Report and distribution plan.
- Supports the development and implementation of the Strategic Communications Annual Plan, monitors, tracks, and reports outcomes.
- Coordinates the preparation of the Department's monthly Board Report submission. Develops reports, memos, and write-ups as necessary.
- Leads any department-focused award submission efforts, as well as assists other departments, when necessary.
- Meets with community partners for special projects, initiatives, events, and to assist in interventions that strategically address Medi-Cal priorities.
- Initiates and develop a Speaker's Bureau to support CCH staff conference presence, as well as creating and maintaining a go-to list of providers, executives and others for quotes and interviews, language abilities, and related Communications support.
- Maintains a working knowledge of current industry & best practices to make recommendations related to communications.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Desk Level Procedures for all programs within the position's purview.
- Attends various internal and external meetings and completes other duties as assigned.
- Assists the Strategic Engagement Coordinator by attending events across CenCal Health's service area, including on weekends and after hours as needed, packs supplies to attend events, and doing set up and take down at events.
- Assists with managing grant requests, including monitoring grant specific requirements, like report submissions, check verification, and preparing memos about the grants for CenCal Health's Board of Directors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including speaking, writing, and editing for different audiences with different reading levels.
- In-depth knowledge of best writing and messaging practices for business correspondence, newsletters, public relations, websites, advertising, and social media.
- Familiar with recognized writing style guides such as AP Stylebook or Chicago Manual of Style.
- Knowledge on the back end of social media platforms, experience in managing followers and understanding follower engagement principles.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple and shifting priorities, provide a high attention to detail, and respond to challenges with a high degree of adaptability.
- Demonstrated ability to foster partnerships and collaborations with multiple internal and external partners to support the department's strategic priorities, support plan work, and ensure timely and effective project delivery.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in communications, English, journalism, marketing,advertising, business administration, public relations, or another relevant discipline.
- A minimum of four years or more of experience in public relations or media required.
- Photography and videography experience, such as shooting and editing photo/video content required.
- Software knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite required.
- Experience writing press releases, web content, and editorial content required.
- Experience working for a health plan or working tangential to Medicaid/Medi-Cal recipients preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, both oral and written, is strongly preferred.
- Software knowledge of WordPress, Google Analytics, Meta Analytics, LinkedIn Analytics, SproutSocial Wrike, or Meltwater preferred.
