Summary:

The person in this position is responsible for all Compass Minerals Wholesale Plant Nutrition sales activities within the assigned area of the Western US. The region includes Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales objectives through consistent sales growth and demonstrated superior territory management skills and expertise.
  • Excels in sales activities pertaining to high-value products in specialty agriculture markets in the Western US.
  • Has consistently developed and executed plans to maximize market penetration while optimizing netbacks through sound pricing and customer segmentation strategies.
  • Actively managed and segmented the high value crop customer base in the Western US geography.
  • Responsible for customer and market development activities required to fully execute growth strategies, increase top line growth, and maximize margin.
  • Work with customers in developing and managing research and field trials focused on key crops and geographies.
  • Retain and grow customer base and develop long term sustainable relationships with key accounts.
  • Establish customer contact plans at both management and field sales levels as guided by business results. This includes frequency, type of communication, etc.
  • Will actively implement and promote Specialty Fertilizer marketing programs and incentives.
  • Assist in planning and forecasting product movement through the warehouse system.
  • Work in collaboration with retail sales teams to create pull through for Compass Minerals products.
  • Perform all duties with the highest level of integrity and safety.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in agricultural business or equivalent education and experience and 8+ years of experience in sales and business.
  • 5+ years of Agricultural sales preferred, fertilizer sales experience preferred.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Successful development and execution of sales growth strategies in agricultural markets is also required.
