The opportunity:

Exceptional software development is integral to our mission of making global trade easy for everyone. As an engineering manager in the Trucking organization, you'll build an industry-leading automated marketplace for trucking capacity, finding the right carrier, for the right price, every time. Your team will own a broad suite of products, including best-in-class fraud detection and carrier vetting, automated carrier onboarding and performance management, an offer feed that uses cutting edge recommendations and relevance models, an automated marketplace that leverages machine learning models that optimize and negotiate rates with carriers, and carrier payments. You will work alongside other self-starters to solve real-world problems, streamline inefficiencies, help freight brokers and carriers grow their businesses, and ultimately transform the trucking industry for the better. Finally, you will be part of the engineering leadership team at Flexport and help shape the growth of the broader engineering organization

You will:
  • Build the Convoy Platform carrier marketplace, including carrier app, automated auctions, carrier vetting and performance monitoring, carrier contracts, and carrier payments.
  • Build and lead a productive, healthy software engineering team
  • Own and drive operational excellence for the Convoy app and other carrier tech products
  • Craft the architectural strategy and own the technical landscape for the Carrier Tech domain
  • Work closely with business partners, data science managers, and product managers to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
  • Build and launch products rapidly and incrementally. We ship to production dozens of times per day.
  • Collaborate with business partners, data science managers, and product managers to build a long term product roadmap and grow our customer base.
  • Geek out about trucking and logistics. (We do this often.)
You should have:
  • 8+ years of experience developing software (including management)
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Experience hiring and building healthy and productive software engineering teams
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and develop software engineering talent
  • Experience setting technical vision and roadmap for a team
  • Track record of ideating, planning, executing and reflecting on multi-month initiatives
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operations excellence
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing full-stack application teams.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team with product, design, and data.
  • Experience developing distributed systems.
  • Strong ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, and engineers alike.
  • A bias for action. When you see a problem, you solve it.
  • An aptitude for learning. The global logistics industry is vast and complex, we will never stop learning


The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.

The US base salary range for this position: (exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits.)

$206,000-$257,000 USD
