JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager of Occupational Health and Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all occupational health and safety programs. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, reduces workplace incidents, manages risk, and prevents loss through strategic planning, effective training, and program implementation. It requires exceptional leadership skills and a proactive approach to fostering a safe and secure environment for all employees, customers, and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Create safety programs tailored to the organization's needs and risks.
  • Formulate detailed safety policies and procedures, including emergency response plans and training programs.
  • Roll out safety programs and policies across the organization, ensuring employee understanding and compliance.
  • Identify and analyze potential hazards, developing mitigation strategies to reduce risks.
  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, or near-misses, including root-cause analyses.
  • Manage Worker's Compensation cases in collaboration with the Human Resources team.
  • Ensure prompt reporting and accurate record-keeping, developing and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive training modules covering safety procedures, emergency response, and loss prevention techniques.
  • Regularly communicate and monitor compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with department managers to ensure employees have and utilize the standard personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Oversee disposal of chemical substances according to safety guidelines.
  • Create and implement comprehensive emergency response plans, conduct regular drills and applicable testing to ensure preparedness.
  • Work with Loss Prevention Manager to create comprehensive plans to reduce theft, fraud, and other types of losses.
  • Monitor updates in industry standards and regulatory requirements, updating organizational policies as needed.
  • Collect and compile data for occupational health, safety and loss prevention reports, ensuring timely submission to relevant regulatory agencies including OSHA reporting.
  • Perform systematic workplace evaluations and audits to ensure compliance with safety and risk mitigation standards and requirements.
  • Provide direction and support to the team, fostering professional growth and promoting a safety culture.
  • Manage and comply with OSHA regulations and logs and file logs annually.
  • Perform related responsibilities and projects as assigned by executive leadership.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Monitor updates in industry standards and regulatory requirements, updating organizational policies as needed.
  • Collect and compile data for safety and loss prevention reports, ensuring timely submission to relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Create appropriate stakeholder committees to enhance a safety and risk mitigation culture.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure regular audits and inspections of equipment result in compliance with industry standards and requirements.
  • Provide direction and support to the team, fostering professional growth and promoting a safety culture.
  • Promote a culture of vigilance and accountability through continuous safety and loss mitigation education and awareness campaigns.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and NIOSH guidelines and regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Proven leadership, team management skills, communication, and training skills.
  • Must possess meticulous organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work under pressure, continuously meet deadlines, and manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously.
  • Must work collaboratively with all levels and departments regarding initiatives impacting occupational health, safety, and environmental protocols, procedures, and culture.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop actionable safety and loss prevention strategies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Must be willing to travel to different job sites as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Compliance with Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, risk management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety, preferably in a retail, operations, or distribution environment.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification is preferred.
