JOB SUMMARY
We're looking for a tenured Senior General Ledger Accountant to join our ranks and contribute to our accounting team and greater community. We are a public entity and would benefit from a candidate with public sector experience, who likes to dig deep, has a keen attention to detail. Under general supervision by the Director of Finance, the Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for reconciling the general ledger accounts, oversee payroll functions, and provide financial oversight to our member communities.

PAY: $80,000.00-$95,000.00 annually, depending on experience (DOE).

Under general supervision by the Director of Finance, the Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for reconciling the general ledger accounts, oversee payroll functions, and provide financial oversight to our member communities.

- Establish and update narratives for each general ledger account.
- Assign expenses to the appropriate general ledger account.
- Reconcile monthly entries from our enterprise system to our accounting system.
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and attach supporting documents.
- Reconcile current and past invoices to the appropriate capital asset and general ledger.
- Assist in implementing and updating the capital asset accounting software and facilitate communication between both software.
- Process payroll for the MSD and several of its member communities.
- Work with payroll vendor to ensure timely and accurate filing of required federal and state reports.
- Process benefits premium payments to vendors and reconcile to the general ledger.
- Act as the point of contact for payroll related questions.
- Provide financial oversight and consulting services to member communities.
- Explain financial concepts to member communities in a manner that is easily understood.
- Provide exceptional financial customer service to member communities.
- Advise communities on financial matters that could impact their communities.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget.
- Assist with the completion of the annual audit.
- Present proposed budgets at board meetings and be prepared to answer budget-related questions.
- Prepare a variety of studies, reports, and related information for decision-making purposes.
- Establish and maintain internal control procedures and perform periodic internal audits.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), with emphasis in the areas of governmental accounting and financial reporting
- Effective budgeting principles, methods, and techniques
- Accounting principles relating to all Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements
- Accounting department functions
- Effective communication methods and public relations
- Coordination of independent audit activities from the client side
- Utah Code Annotated and related State and Federal rules and policies
- State of Utah Fiscal Procedures Act
- Conduct in-depth analysis for complex journal entries and monthly reconciliations
- Prepare financial reports and documentations
- Provide quality customer service
- Perform financial analysis and interpretation
- Effectively use financial database programs
- Analyze and make recommendations for changes in procedures and financing processes
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Interact effectively with individuals at various levels and maintain positive working relationships
- Effectively plan, organize, and perform tasks even under stressful situations
- Act independently and use sound judgment
- Possess strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or other closely related field, plus three (3) years of relevant experience. Education may not be substituted for the required relevant experience.
- CPA preferred.
