Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Sediment Remediation Engineer, Geologist or Scientist
with strong technical experience to lead high-profile contaminated sediment projects in the Pacific Northwest and support similar projects throughout North America. The primary project work is based in Oregon and Washington. We seek a technically proficient individual with demonstrated experience successfully addressing the investigation, remediation, and restoration of contaminated sediment sites, using best practices and emerging technologies.

A successful candidate must be able to write and convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner; and oversee and work productively with junior technical staff and subcontractors while assuring work scopes and safety requirements are met. Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills will be necessary to work in our collaborative team-oriented offices; strong interpersonal skills are a must. The individual should have a relevant technical background in site investigation and remediation of contaminated sediments of marine/coastal and/or freshwater aquatic systems and experience in planning and managing sediment projects. The successful candidate will also have opportunity to work with Stantec's other Pacific Northwest disciplines on assessment/cleanup projects including our award-winning Asset Transformation and Brownfields team, our Water Delivery and Conveyance team, our Power and Dams team, our Community Development team, and our Natural Resources team.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Managing assessments, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and remedial implementation for cleanup of complex sediment sites within terrestrial, river, lake, or marine environments;
  • Conducting work under CERCLA, USACE and state regulatory programs;
  • Planning and directing environmental sampling programs, including supervision of subcontractors, and critically evaluating laboratory data for feasibility study and remedial design purposes;
  • Developing conceptual site models;
  • Conducting feasibility and treatability Studies to evaluate remedial options;
  • Implementing solutions and offering innovations to remediate contaminated sediment sites;
  • Engaging in regular client and regulatory communication relating to project management, technical issues, and cleanup strategies;
  • Developing sediment remedial design plans, specifications, and construction contract documents;
  • Implementing remedial actions, construction oversight/management and quality assurance, and long-term monitoring programs;
  • Staff training and leadership development in sediment remediation;
  • Leading a Pacific Northwest sediment investigation/remediation team with support from other regional experts;
  • Managing multi-discipline teams to deliver complex projects;
  • Leading/participating in marketing and business development efforts to expand current project and client base;
  • Client outreach and development;
  • Identifying and developing local teaming partners/contractors and recruiting staff to build a team as needed; and,
  • Enforcing Stantec's health, safety and security requirements.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, geology, hydrogeology or related field.
  • Computer proficient in Office 365.
  • 15+ years of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in sediment remediation requirements; and,
  • Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver's license.
  • Prior to employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and/or drug screen.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) in Oregon and/or Washington or the ability to obtain license within one year of accepting offer;
  • Master's degree in environmental/civil, geology, environmental science, or related degree;
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification, and current 8-hour refresher;
  • Drafting and/or geospatial design (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SMS);
  • Fieldwork experience, such as reconnaissance, measurements, sample collection, construction inspection, and instrument handling and deployment;
