*Job Responsibilities*
As a *Certified Medication Aide,* you will prepare and administer oral, topical and suppository medications to residents as prescribed by the physician. You will also count and calculate dosages on a daily basis and document the number of scheduled drugs at the beginning and end of each shift. Additionally, the Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide will:
* Report any observations concerning resident/patient condition, emergency situations or difficulties with medications to the supervising nurse throughout the shift should they occur
* Document vital signs, medication administration resident behaviors associated with medication administration and facility incident and accident reports
* Meet with supervisory staff to report, review and discuss medication administration process and participate in review response
* Participate in designing and implementing resident care plans in relation to medication administration
* Record and replace medications and medication administration supplies; maintains and clean medication cart to remain compliant with facility policies and procedures
* Provide direct resident care within the scope of the CMA role and continue direct care activities and other relevant nursing assistant duties as assigned
As a *Certified Medication Aide*, you will need a high school diploma or equivalent and must be a CMA in good standing. Additionally, the ideal Certified Medication Aide candidate will have:
* 6 months experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), experience in a long-term care facility preferred
* Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and transfer residents (up to 100 pounds unassisted), bend, twist, push and pull
* Knowledge of medical terminology, skill in administering nursing techniques including taking vital signs, medication administration and knowledge of possible side effects
* Exceptional organization skills, ability to prepare and maintain accurate resident charts, reports and observations
* Effective communication skills and interpersonal relations
* Good problem solving and independent thinking skills
* Knowledge of basic hygiene and sanitation practices
* Professional conduct and ethics
