Job DescriptionDirector, Global HEOR, Chronic PainLocation: Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote weekly)General Summary:Vertex operates at the forefront of scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) as well as Casgevy, a new gene therapy for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia.  Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research programs focused on the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases including programs in Pain, APOL-1 mediated kidney disease (AMKD), and cell therapies for Type 1 diabetes, among others.   In consideration of our expanding pipeline and an increasingly complex and challenging commercial environment, Vertex is expanding its Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team.  The HEOR team works cross-functionally and across regions to envision, create, and communicate compelling evidence supporting the value of Vertex assets for reimbursement and healthcare payers across all stages of the product lifecycle.The Director, HEOR role will serve as the lead for the chronic indications of our Pain portfolio, a series of novel non-opioid analgesics that have the potential to reshape the pain market. The individual will be responsible for leading the development and execution of HEOR strategies primarily for chronic indications across the Vertex Pain portfolio.  The role reports to the Senior Director of Global HEOR for the Pain Portfolio.  Responsibilities:Lead and execute the HEOR strategy for chronic indications for our Pain portfolioServe as the HEOR lead on cross-functional teams to ensure global HEOR strategic plans reflect input of key stakeholders and are aligned with commercial, clinical, medical, RWE, and market access plansGather and synthesize insights from Payers, KOLs and HEOR experts; stay current with scientific and policy trends and apply strategic thinking and content expertise to all planning activitiesProvide key input to the design of Vertex clinical development and Phase 4 programs to ensure appropriate inclusion of design elements and endpoints relevant to payers, clinicians and patientsResponsible for the development and execution of high quality HEOR evidence and value communication strategies to support optimal funding, payment and access aligned with Pain program objectivesOversee evidence generation including, CEAs and BIMs, prospective and retrospective observational studies, ITCs, meta-analyses and systematic reviews, PRO measure development and validation, and other research as needed to support the asset valueCollaborate with the Medical Communications teams on publication strategy and ensure that dissemination of HEOR evidence is timely and has maximum impactWork closely with Global Value and Access Strategy to lead production of product value proposition and deliver compelling and robust Global launch deliverables that support market access (including GVD)Expedite market access with optimal pricing globally by supporting local model adaptations and HTA submissions to ensure accurate, consistent and effective use of HEOR evidenceLead cross-functional teams in the execution of HEOR projects and initiatives     As a people manager within the organization, may have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staffQualifications:Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MPH, MS or PharmD) in a scientific discipline; clinical background should be supplemented with advanced quantitative training demonstrated by an MPH or MS in a relevant fieldTypically requires 10 years of experience in health economics and outcomes research, or directly-related field, and 3 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journalsSuperior strategic/tactical planning experience within a pharmaceutical environment is required with deep experience in commercialization and drug developmentExcellent communication, presentation, collaboration and influencing skills cross internal and external stakeholdersRecognized as a team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is flexible and reliableExperience in leading cross-functional teams requiredDemonstrated relationship building at all levels of the organization and across geographiesDisplays sound ethics and a fit for Vertex’s core valuesSkills:In-depth knowledge and ability to apply knowledge of US and global healthcare systems, global HTA requirements, and clinical development, to identify evidence gaps and formulate evidence generation and communication strategiesSubject-matter expert in HEOR able to formulate and lead creative research projects and ensure conduct is technically and scientifically rigorous and reflects best HEOR practicesCulturally competent collaborator able to effectively lead cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business and stakeholder needs while managing to timelines and budgetsDeep understanding of the drug development processAssess, synthesize, interpret, and communicate relevant scientific information to internal and external stakeholdersExecute and manage research projects with external collaborates and vendors to ensure timely completion and quality of deliverables as well as budget and legal complianceGenerate peer-reviewed publications to communicate study findings in scientific channels in alignment with the product publication strategy and the overall HEOR evidence generation strategyDeliver best practice project management oversight for all research and study related activitiesUnderstanding of the legal and regulatory environment of the pharmaceutical industry, with spotless history of compliance and ethical workplace conduct#LI-KM3Flex Designation:Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site EligibleFlex Eligibility Status:In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as: 1.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week;
