DutiesTHIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION
The primary purpose of the PHYSICIAN (AEROSPACE MEDICINE), GP-0602-14, is to provide a fulltime, residency trained, experienced Physician to plan, schedule, execute, manage, and administer installation-wide medical management including, aerospace and operational disposition and to provide critical clinical judgment for medical case management to promote and maintain the health and well-being of assigned Air National Guard (ANG) personnel.Performs comprehensive medical assessments including, but not limited to, annual preventive health pre- and post-deployment interviews, mental and deployment health assessments; pre-placement, occupational health, and separation health physical exams; fitness for duty evaluations; fly waiver, line of duty, and medical continuation determinations.Oversees all programs that fall under the Aerospace Medicine Program including: personnel reliability; Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act; security clearance; overseas clearance; force health protection; force health readiness; psychological health; occupational and environmental health (i.e., hearing conservation; immunization; fetal, respiratory and radiological protection; ionizing radiation, potable water quality, hazard communication, and quantitative fitness testing) programs.Actively participates in strategic planning to improve organizational direction as a member of the ANG medical unit leadership. Evaluates and applies critical clinical knowledge and experience to interpret the findings of ancillary studies to the assessments of assigned ANG personnel. Coordinates consultations with other subject matter experts to assist in interpretation of abnormal studies and discusses the findings with the member's primary care medical provider or consulting specialist. Thoroughly researches medical documentation, evaluates complex patient diagnoses, and uses sound judgment when interpreting complex medical standards, codes, guidelines, policies, and regulations to finalize medical recommendations for flying or special duty; line of duty determinations and disability evaluations. Provides expert medical advice/guidance for safety investigations compiles a clinically relevant medical summary and/or relevant medical records for the safety investigation officer.Analyzes, evaluates, monitors, and reports on Individual Medical Readiness for ANG Wing, tenants, and geographically separated unit personnel. Provides expert medical advice and guidance to bioenvironmental engineering military public health, physiologic training, human performance, flight safety, and others in support of the aerospace community. Provides policy guidance and complex medical interpretations to senior management officials to ensure compliance with medical aspects for the worldwide deployability of assigned ANG personnel. Analyzes, evaluates, monitors, and reports on Individual Medical Readiness for ANG Wing, tenants, and geographically separated unit personnel. Utilizes extensive medical knowledge to ensure compliance with and preparation for readiness of unit compliance inspections, evaluations, audits, and staff assistance visits including unit effectiveness inspections.The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.

Incumbent may be required to report for or remain on duty during inclement weather.The work of this position may require rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call duty hours.Incumbent may be required to participate in contingency readiness exercises, major accident response exercises, and investigations.Incumbent of this position will be required to file OGE Form 450, Confidential Statement of Affiliations and Financial Interests.Must be able to obtain and maintain privileging for the DOD/AFMS/ANGMS IAW DHA PM 6025-13 VOL 4 AND DAFMAN 44-119. Must maintain credentials requirements at all time. QualificationsPHYSICIAN (AEROSPACE MEDICINE), GP-0602-14: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-13 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: Provides expert medical advice/guidance for safety investigations and compiles a clinically relevant medical summary and/or relevant medical records for the safety investigation officer; Coordinates with inter-disciplinary teams to gather facts and uses effective analytical and evaluative methods to prepare complex healthcare recommendations; Provides expert clinical decision making and medical dispositions on a wide range of illnesses and injuries relating to Wing fitness questionnaires; duty limiting condition reports; Provides policy guidance and complex medical interpretations to senior management officials to ensure compliance with medical aspects for the worldwide deployability of assigned ANG personnel; Utilizes extensive medical knowledge to ensure compliance with and preparation for readiness of unit compliance inspections, evaluations, audits, and staff assistance visits including unit effectiveness inspections.

EducationMust have a Degree in a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
ORMust have a Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.Must have had at least 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training (Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 4 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., internships or residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training).When there is a positive education or certification requirement, or you are using education to qualify as a substitution for experience, copies of transcripts (unofficial) and/or certificates are required at the time of application to verify that you meet the educational/certification requirement or substitution.
