Overview
Virginia Mason Medical Center, a dynamic and historic community hospital in the center of beautiful Seattle, Washington, has an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider, ARNP or PA-C in Palliative Care. Our teams vision is to provide comprehensive palliative care services to any Virginia Mason patient and family dealing with a serious illness.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a driven Palliative Care APP who matches our current enthusiasm for transforming how Palliative Care is delivered. Our interprofessional Palliative Care team supports patients and families in both the hospital as well as the outpatient clinic which is embedded in our Cancer Institute. We are seeking a part-time APP to join our expanding outpatient program. This position would be 3 days per week in clinic with the ability to follow established patients in the hospital. Currently our clinic has 2 physicians, an RN, MSW, MA-C as well as a dedicated scheduler. Opportunities for teaching: we offer Vital Talk and Serious Illness Communication Guide training throughout the year and also have a multitude of learners rotate with our team as well.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate will:
- Have a natural ability to connect with, and empathize with, patients and their families, as well as communicate effectively with a patients other medical providers.
- Be clinically strong and remain well-informed of the newest Palliative Care treatments.
- Possess excellent communication skills, with both co-workers and patients and families.
- Be willing to dive into the effort of growing a sustainable Palliative Care Program under Virginia Masons collective focus of delivering the highest quality health care.
Experience and Certifications
(Nurse Practitioner)
- Washington State Registered Nurse License and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License are required for this job.
- Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers may be required depending on the position, as well as prescriptive authority.
- Advanced background in nursing; an understanding of anatomy, physiology, histology, and pharmacology; and strong interpersonal and counseling skills.
- Certification by specialty area as well as work experience in specialty area may be required, depending on the position.
- BLS required
(Physician Assistant-C)
- This position requires Certification as a Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority in the State of Washington.
- Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers may be required depending on the position, as well as prescriptive authority.

Pay Range
$61.53 - $77.23 /hour
