Your role in helping us shape the future:

U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. The Sr. UX & Product Designer will make an impact through guiding the user experience, design, and user research strategies for B2C and B2B products for U.S. News-a digital media company dedicated to helping consumers and business leaders make important decisions in their lives. This includes driving the design thinking through a user-centric approach that aligns business goals with user goals and incorporates qualitative and quantitative research, competitive research, and analytics tools.

Are you up to the challenge?
  • Visual Design: Create high fidelity mockups, wireframes and architecture diagrams to help us better serve our millions of users and customers. Build and update other web and print collateral aligned with the U.S. News Brand.
  • Collaboration: Work with product owners, engineers, SEO, data analysts, editorial, and other stakeholders in an agile framework to define strategic priorities for B2C and B2B products. Participate in weekly critiques with design team members to learn and improve your craft.
  • UX Strategy: Maintain designer operations within the vertical by helping shape roadmaps, defining scope and product requirements, and aligning business goals with user goals.
  • Design System: Maintain and work with your fellow designers to optimize the U.S. News' enterprise-level design system through documentation and support of templates and libraries.
  • UX Research: Use website analysis and competitive research to help define and socialize the UX, design, and user research strategies. Work with the team to prioritize and execute user research and testing.
  • UX Problem Solving: Proactively identify problems to be solved and works calmly and independently with vertical teams. Effectively articulate design decisions and explain their rationale to vertical teams and USN leadership.
  • Cross Functional Thinking: The design team can help connect verticals working on similar projects, keep track of major initiatives to see where your work can help other verticals or efforts in other verticals can be reused by you.
  • Own Your Vertical: You will own the design direction in your vertical (department). This includes being the main contact for design queries within the vertical, being present in product meetings to help represent the UX team, and helping manage and mentor any junior designers and contractors working on the vertical.


Position Requirements

You should definitely have:
  • 5+ years designing product as part of a cross-functional team
  • A Bachelor's degree is required or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to work independently and set goals for UX improvements. Senior UX & Product Designers are expected to work with little oversight.
  • Ability to communicate UX improvements to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a product teams structure in the agile framework.
  • Experience partnering with developers to facilitate design handoff and QA designs.
  • Experience with competitive analysis, user research, and communicating and applying those findings to UX execution.
  • Portfolio or case studies showcasing experience in executing on key business objectives through user experience. Work samples should reflect an advanced understanding of skills and scope of work and you should be prepared to talk through them in detail.
  • Understand the landscape of user research methods and be able to identify a research plans that solves for teams' needs
  • Tools (job specific)
    • Figma
    • Experience with design systems (Materials a plus)
    • HTML & CSS knowledge
    • Adobe Creative Suite; Photoshop, Illustrator is a plus.

  • The anticipated base salary for this position is $80,000 to $100,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
