Barr Engineering Co.
Geochemist - Senior Level (Hybrid/Remote)
Barr Engineering Co., Saskatoon, SK
Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is seeking a senior-level geochemist to join its growing geochemical practice across the midwestern and western U.S. and western Canada. We are looking for a collaborative consultant and experienced geochemist to provide both technical and project leadership for our geochemistry team.
This position includes work on a range of projects involving tailings and mine waste, coal combustion residuals (CCR), legacy contamination, and other multi-media environments. The person in this position will use expertise in development and implementation of material and waste characterization methods and geochemical models to assess acid rock drainage/metal leaching, mineral solubility, water and chemical balances, and water quality.
Technical responsibilities will include leading geochemical assessments, design and management of complex data collection programs, and senior review of discipline-based work packages, as well as preparation of technical reports and supporting documentation. Project responsibilities will include development of discipline-based scopes of work, schedules, and budgets and management and administration of that work. Other typical activities include participating in technical conferences and seminars, mentoring and developing staff, communicating with clients, and participating in meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel. This person will help advance the state of our geochemical practice group through knowledge sharing, creative problem solving, and service development.
The person in this position also will be responsible for client service and business development. Typical business development activities include building and maintaining client relationships, contributing to marketing campaigns and performing client outreach, fostering project opportunities, contributing to proposals and presentations, professional networking, and sharing Barr's capabilities with existing and potential clients.
Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers working primarily from a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Calgary, Alberta, or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, offices. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, location requirements, and Barr's needs.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
