SUMMARY: The Sr. FSQA Manager is responsible for establishing and implementing FSQA department programs and maintaining the measurements to assure finished products meet or exceed company standards, customer standards, and industry standards. Direct, plan, supervise and control all aspects of plant/corporate operations to include coordination of the development, training, implementation and reporting of Quality into 100% of facility processes; monitor and maintain compliance with USDA regulations and requirements; consistently implement requirements set forth for maintaining the highest standard of quality for products and services.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's degree in a related field (food or meat science) or four plus years within the meat industry with an emphasis in pork or the combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position, including supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Well-developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees. Must be resourceful, self-sufficient and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well with others. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations. Must be able to write informative reports, business correspondence and formal presentations on food safety topics that can be effective to all levels of personnel.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with management personnel and others within and outside of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations. Must possess strong analytical and metric-based skills.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong personal computer skills such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. Must have a basic understanding of statistics to be able to prepare and/or interpret data. Must hold a valid driver's license due to occasional travel to remote facilities for training and meetings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. Generally the incumbent must be able to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; move about the facility; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Individual must be able to effectively work in a laboratory environment as well as normal production environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary.

- Responsible for effective management of FSQA technicians, FSQA Supervisors and NSIS in a Pork Harvesting (kill /cut) facility.
- Develop, manage, train, and supervise all plant FSQA and NSIS hourly staff promoting both individual and team success.
- Provide necessary technical resources to all department managers, report all quality deviations to appropriate facility personnel
- Leads and monitors the food safety and quality assurance programs.
- Communicate with operations management, purchasing and /or raw material suppliers, regarding product quality deviations and supplier audit information
- Provide guidance to supervisors regarding all product dispositions.
- Investigate all quality complaints, document, and implement both corrective and preventative actions.
- Perform and/or oversee HACCP and GMP audits of the process as well as employee training in these areas in conjunction with the HACCP manager.
- Prioritize supervisory tasks regarding customer focus and USDA concerns.
- Work with operations to ensure products on hold are released timely.
- Ability to participate in cross-functional management teams
- Act as USDA facility contact
- Prepare for and participate as needed in third party customer audits
- Direct reports include: All FSQA Department Technicians, FSQA Supervisors and NSIS.
- Indirect reports may include Lab Technicians, Sanitation and Production labor force.
- May at times fill in for Director of FSQA or FS Regulatory Manager.
- Aid in R D projects with quality issues
