Ankura's alternative investment valuation practice enables money managers to provide credible reporting on the value of their investments to current and prospective investors. Our valuation services professionals are experienced in many facets of valuation. In addition to financial reporting, they are skilled at providing expert testimony, defending our valuation before various audit firms, regulatory bodies and the Internal Revenue Service.

Role Overview:

Our professionals are experienced in utilizing a variety of valuation standards, approaches and methodologies including:
  • Standards of value include fair value under GAAP and IFRS, fair market value for tax reporting, and intrinsic or investment value for consulting and due diligence services.
  • Responsible for managing and developing a staff
  • Oversight of ongoing projects and client relationships
  • Premises of value including going concern and liquidation approaches
  • Valuation approaches and methodologies include:
    • Market approach: guideline company method, guideline transaction method, and the recent transaction method
    • Sales comparison approach; utilizes recent transactions, selection of appropriate units of comparison, as in real estate
    • Income approach: discounted cash flow method, capitalization of earnings method, etc.
    • Asset approach: discrete/collective revaluation of assets and liabilities
    • Cost approach: estimation of costs to replicate a service or asset
    • Option modeling including OPM, binomial and Monte Carlo approaches
  • Financial statement analysis including ratio, common-sized, and trend analyses
  • Discount/capitalization rates including buildup method, capital asset pricing model, weighted average cost of capital, and other quantitative approaches
  • Minority interest discounts/control premiums, including Finnerty
  • Discounts for lack of marketability


Requirements:
  • 15+ years with direct experience in performing alternative investment valuations for financial reporting purposes. This experience will include determining business enterprise valuations, as well as the valuation of illiquid debt, equity and derivative positions across a wide variety of industries and geographies.
  • Specific subject matter expertise is a plus. For example, expertise in specific industries, structured product valuation, litigation finance valuation, or the creation of an OPM for a complex capital structure, would be highly desirable.
  • Undergraduate degree required, emphasis in Finance, Accounting or Economics preferred
