General Summary:
The Manager, Accounting is responsible for all areas relating to accounting functions, financial reporting, and cash management. The Manager, Accounting is also expected to make recommendations to the CFO and Controller for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The Manager, Accounting supervises all staff in Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. This position must meet tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and financial reporting.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. The Manager, Accounting supervises all staff in Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cash management and treasury services - monitors cash inflow and outflow (includes determining borrowing requests for LOC (letter of credit) and scheduling release of accounts payable checks), monitors activities, prepares cash forecast, and handles bank transactions.
- Supervises general accounting, accounts payable and payroll functions.
- Performs duties of Controller in Controller's absence.
- Supervises preparation of financial statements and related reports.
- Audits - internal, year-end, creditors (bank, LOC), financial compliance and various other agency audits.
- Prepares work-papers and collects supporting documents.
- Prepares fiscal year-end tax returns for hospital, health system, D & T and Foundation.
- Included are federal returns as well as state returns.
- Coordinates tax auditor reviews and filing of final returns.
- Files or coordinates the filing of various state and city documents for licenses, taxes etc.
- Includes Unclaimed Property (outgoing and incoming), Restaurant tax return, paperwork for city licenses, annual reports for Secretary of State's office etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Grant reporting - completes paperwork and forms for grant reporting with the state and city.
- Includes IDHS (Illinois Dept. of Human Services) and IBHE (Illinois Board of Higher Education) reports.
- Also prepares returns and paperwork required for auditor review.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
- Five years of accounting experience in healthcare or not-for-profit environment required.
- Three years of supervisory experience (required); Five years supervisory experience (preferred)
- CPA, MBA in Accounting, Finance, or Health Administration preferred.
- Seven to ten years of accounting experience in hospital or other healthcare settings preferred.
- Good analytical skill required.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) required.
- Good managerial skill (to manage staff in Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll) and good interpersonal skill (to work with personnel in other departments, vendors, and government agencies, etc.) preferred.
- Ability to work independently, and work well with deadlines (monthly General Ledger close, internal and external reporting deadlines, etc.) required.
