In addition, the Chief Medical Officer works with the Occupational Health Leadership Team and HMH's VP of Ambulatory Services to assist in coordination of all aspects of the practice, within HMH and with local businesses and organizations. The Chief Medical Officer is also required to meet all Staff Physician competencies.ResponsibilitiesA day in the life of a Vice President, Chief Medical Officer of Occupational Health and Safety at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:Coordinates with Sr. Leadership to direct design and implementation of Occupational Medicine service offerings. Maintain working relationship with local industries. Discuss trends with Sr. Leadership. Develops medical standards and policies for OH service delivery that supports HMH's overall strategy. Develops and maintains medical standards for employment. Develops or assists in the development and updating of occupational health policies and procedures consistent with applicable legal mandates, best community medical practices and guidelines, as well as organizational missions and goals. Plans and directs the medical programs/activities including the establishment, improvement, or revision of medical examination protocols, questionnaires, and examination review and procedures. Directs the establishment, improvement or revision of medical standards for employment, pre-placement and fitness for duty examinations. Performs the more difficult evaluations and reviews the work and recommendations of HMH OH physicians, contracted clinic medical staff and related work performed for the organization in accordance with best medical practice and applicable laws. Performs specialized services such as IMEs, disability reviews and peer to peer calls. Provides technical and administrative supervision and support of HMH OH providers. Meet with Senior Leadership to discuss operational goals regularly. Prepare and monitor physician vacations for system approval. Encourages and approves annual CME time for medical staff. Make regular sales contact with new and existing Occupational Health customers. Conduct regular meetings with physician and nurse practitioner staff in collaboration with Senior Leadership. Reviews clinical performance of all providers annually. Ensures credentials of providers are complete and current. Ensures adherence to standards of care. Develops and monitors quarterly QA standards. Performs periodic chart reviews. Assists in direction and development of marketing efforts. Participates in client walk-throughs. Assists in development of marketing plan. Distributes educational materials. Reviews and approves standards of care.QualificationsEducation, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Doctorate in Medicine. Two years of medical administrative experience. Medical Examiner Certification by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for DOT/CDL exams. Working knowledge of occupational medicine, preventive medicine, and primary care medicine, integrated disability management, industrial toxicology, industrial hygiene, safety techniques and practices, and safety and health laws and regulations on both the Federal and State levels, as well as a general knowledge of equipment and operations in industrial manufacturing. Demonstrated ability in organizational planning, leadership and teamwork. Strong interpersonal skills including communication and collaboration. Ability to influence key stakeholders. Ability to lead and manage change. Licenses and Certifications Required: Certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine. Active NJ State Medical License and DEA License.
