Job description
The Vet Tech will work independently and in teams to provide high-quality veterinary services to the research program.
Primary responsibilities will be to provide preventive health, anesthesia monitoring, and perioperative care to research animals with accompanying record keeping, and to provide instruction to research technicians and students, as well as planning, executing, and analyzing data from ULAR-generated research projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-, peri-, and post-operative animal care with associated husbandry
  • Drug, supply and equipment purchases
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Surgery set-up including disinfection and autoclaving of supplies, equipment and rooms
  • Proper record keeping including SOPs, drug usage, and medical records
  • Maintenance of surgery O.R.s, procedure rooms, and prep areas
  • Proper medical waste disposal and final disposition of animals
  • Assigning fees and charge backs for Veterinary Service Requests

Additional Responsibilities

  • Rodent animal health surveillance and record keeping
  • Non-rodent physical examinations and record keeping
  • Special treatments and post-operative care
  • Environmental and equipment monitoring, e.g. anesthesia machines

Required Education and Experience

  • At least 1 years' experience as a veterinary technician
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician is highly desired (CVT, LVT, RVT, etc.)
  • Experience in anesthesiology and surgical support is highly desired
  • AALAS certification is preferred
