Baylor, Scott, and White Health (BSWH) is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our adult Genetics team in Temple, Texas. This clinic-based role provides a unique opportunity to learn and specialize in genetic conditions and make a lasting impact on patients and their families.

 

Genetics at Baylor, Scott, and White Health

Clinical genetics is the application of genomic technology to better understand and manage particular health conditions. Our Adult Genetics division at BSWH serves the greater Central Texas community in providing access to genetic testing and genetic counseling services for individuals and families.  

 

About the Position:

You will be joining our team of two physician providers who are Medical Geneticists (ABMGG.org), a board-certified genetic counselor, and a nurse clinician. The qualified applicant APP will serve to increase access to genetics services in the outpatient setting for many common as well as rare genetic conditions including:

·       Hereditary Cancer Risk

·       Familial Cardiogenetic concerns

·       Selected inherited Neurologic conditions

The education of our patients and their families about how genes may impact health, and the coordination of genetic testing options is what providers in our Genetics clinic do every day. The Genetics APP will be expected to evaluate patients for genetic risks; assess individuals for a known genetic condition or family history; perform physical examinations for dysmorphology; order and interpret genetic testing; and to develop/prescribe therapeutic interventions or therapy plans where appropriate.

Working collaboratively with physician(s), and through an interdisciplinary program designed to address best practices in Clinical Genetics (see CGAPP.org and ACMG.net), the APP will learn to apply clinical skills in the rapidly advancing field of medical genetics.

 

Key Responsibilities for a Genetics APP:

1.      Conduct thorough patient assessments, including family histories and genetic testing to evaluate for hereditary conditions.

2.      Coordinate genetic testing services for patients and their family members.

3.      Communicate genetic information, including test results and collaborate with physician providers to create individualized care plans.

4.      Provide education to patients and families about genetic conditions, testing options and treatment pathways.

5.      Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure comprehensive patient care and appropriate referrals as indicated.

6.      Document a detailed clinic encounter in the medical record and care plans in accordance with best practices and clinical genetics standards. *

 

What You Bring:

·       Graduate of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

·       Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privileges, as well as Texas APRN licensure (or eligible).

·       Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).

·       A passion for genetics in medicine, with strong communication skills and an empathetic approach to patient care.

SCHEDULE- Mon -Fri 8-5p- Outpatient only. Ages 12 yrs old and up. APP will require genetics-specific training. Goals:  decrease wait time, increase access. Eval new patients for genetic disorder, increase access with existing genetic disorder. Perform heredity cancer risk assessment, Physical exams and dysmorphia exam. Order and interpret genetic testing, develop therapeutic interventions, plans, referrals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program
  • EXPERIENCE - 1 year + of Experience


CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Physician Assistants (PA): Must have a PA license through the state of TX.
