Key duties and responsibilities:Shall provide 24 hours of on-call services, Thursday Sunday, each week (4 days a week), plus government observed holidays and periodic staff vacation days.Consult with the requesting Robley Rex VAMCs physicians regarding the appropriate medical care of veterans presenting with neurological conditions and inpatient follow-up visits for any unstable inpatient.Physicians shall meet or exceed currently recognized national standards as established by The Joint Commission (TJC), and the standards of the American Hospital Association (AHA).Physicians shall comply with all Veterans Health Administrations (VHA) regulations and directives.Consultations services for VA hospitalized patients include direct (on-site, in-person) care of new consults, as deemed appropriate by the primary team. Response to the initial call is expected within 30 minutes.Consultation services necessitating direct care are expected to be seen on-site at the Robley Rex VAMC in a timely manner, as agreed upon with the consulting physician. Consultations services for VA hospitalized patients also includes inpatient follow-up, as determined by the Robley Rex VAMC Staff Neurologists or Primary Team. The contractor will continue to provide inpatient follow-up through the coverage period if clinically required.Consultation services are expected to be made on-site at the Robley Rex VAMC in a timely manner as agreed upon with consulting physician unless the requesting provider determines that an initial telephone consultation is sufficient.Transfer of Crae Dialogue - It is expected that a transfer of care dialogue (handoff) will take place between the contractor physician on-call and the Robley Rex VAMC Staff Neurologist, regarding new consults. At the beginning of the on-call coverage period, the Robley Rex VAMC Staff Neurologist will contact the contractor's on-call physician to discuss any inpatient who will need direct care follow-up during the coverage period. Likewise, at the end of the coverage period, the contractor's on-call physician will contact the Robley Rex VAMC Staff Neurologist to discuss new consults and concerning follow-up cases seen during the coverage period. This communication is expected to be made by 8:30 AM the morning the coverage period ends.The consultation will be completed using an inpatient consult note in CPRS that directly links the response to the original consult. The contracting provider must enter start/end times onto the electronic SharePoint site (attendance log), for all inpatient consultations that were seen in person, when the contractor had to come on-site.For every patient, where the contractor had to come on-site to see the patient and entered a note, they will be compensated at the agreed to flat rate QualificationsBoard Certification - All Contract Neurology provider(s) shall be Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Neurology and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times. Documentation verifying current certification shall be provided by the Contractor to the VA COR on an annual basis for each year of contract performance.License The physician(s) assigned to perform the services covered by this contract shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia) when services are performed onsite on VA property.All licenses held by the personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Contractors physician(s) who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract.Physician(s) registered or certified by national/medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for CME to remain current. Physicians shall have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform assignments of Neurological patient/critically ill patient population. Contractors physician shall demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes specific to the critical care/Neurology population.providing coverage to the VA during periods of vacancies of the Contractors personnel due to sick leave, personal leave, vacations and additional coverage as required.Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident Alien Physicians providing care under this contract must possess a wide range of skills to treat injuries and illnesses.Work Hours24 hours of On-Call services Thursday - SundayScheduled call shifts are between Thursdays 8:00 am Mondays 8a. Plus government observed holidays and periodic staff vacation days.Except in cases of emergency, requirements for on-call coverage will be scheduled in advance.
