Your Opportunity
Stantec's Buildings group in Nova Scotia provides Architecture, Engineering, and Interior Design across multiple sectors including education, multi-family housing, workplace, civic, and research and development. Our team is passionate about the design quality of the built environment and create designs that are timeless, intelligent, and sustainable. As a major contributor on our team, you will work independently to assist clients through the planning and creation of fiscally responsible, award-winning designs. Your experience ensures that you are familiar with construction plans, specifications, estimates and building codes. You will be innovative and creative, working with prototype designs and/or developing unique concepts from sustainable products with green architecture sensibility as your goals. You will lead the development of integrated design proposals, continuous updating of a building information model, preparing a variety of output / drawings throughout the project, while leading and mentoring others and collaborating with team members to contribute to the final deliverables as required under instruction from the Project Leader.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for projects of medium complexity/size.
- Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
- Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
- Coordinates building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Implements sustainable design principles into the design and environment.
- Conceptualizes a building design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client's requirements, budget, and program.
- Participates in design critiques and pin-ups.
- Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections and details.
- Evaluates and selects building systems and materials.
- Assists in the preparation of the project specifications. Coordination of specs with construction documents.
- Participates in constructability review.
- Participates in bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.
- Reviews shop drawings and submittals, responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports and other contract administration tasks.
- Leads project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner, contractor, and sub-contractors.
- Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Inspires creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Detailed understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- To apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.
- Knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards
- To produce at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent.
- To hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
- To participate in project team setting.
- To check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage team to meet project budget and schedule.
- To interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.
- To communicate abstract ideas in writing and verbally.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, recent modeling software.
- Professional degree in Architecture or related field & Registered Architect.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
