We are looking for a talented Business Center Practice Leader (BCPL) in the Minneapolis area who wants to be part of a purpose-driven organization that is focused on helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive. This leadership position will be an integral part of our North Central Water leadership team supporting a 200-person team and represents a $50 million-dollar business. Reporting to the Regional Growth Leader (RGL), the BCPL is the "seller/doer" responsible for leading the pursuit and delivery of excellent work to our clients. Accountable for the top line, the BCPL leads the growth of the Business and Stantec's market position by leveraging their technical skills, industry and market knowledge, and client and partner relationships to purse and win work that transforms our business and inspires our people. BCPLs work closely with account managers, business developers, Sector Leaders (SLs) and project managers to identify and manage our key accounts, pursue opportunities, and solicit feedback from clients on our performance. The BCPL partners with the BC Operations Leader (BCOL) and the broader leadership team to lead and manage, inspire and engage, win and do work - building a culturally strong and high performing business.

Your Key Responsibilities

Strategy:
  • Collaborate with RGL and BC leadership team to assess potential local markets and analyze business opportunities, contributing directly to regional business strategies
  • Support RGL in identifying Regional Top 20 and Next 20 opportunities, in coordination with regional sectors leads and account managers
  • Responsible for developing and managing the marketing and business development (M&BD) plan for the BC including cross selling

Marketing Business Development and Sales:
  • Lead and participate in pursuits and campaigns for major BC and Regional opportunities; engage directly in relationship development, positioning, win strategies and teaming
  • Responsible for BC MBD and sales results in coordination with RGL
  • Track pursuit success rate and return on investment rate on client by client basis
  • Participate in go/no-go decisions for larger pursuits in the BC
  • Coordinate with Regional Marketing to identify resources for pursuit support.
  • Responsible for BC opportunity accuracy in Pipeline.
  • Support opportunity component of Net Revenue Forecasts, in collaboration with BCOL
  • Partner with other BCPLs and leaders to drive collaboration on pursuits across geographies and business lines

Client and Account Management:
  • Engage in the development and maintenance of relationships between the Company, strategic partners, and clients to expand business opportunities
  • Maintain strong client relationships, and help identify "zipper" approaches with key clients
  • May manage one or more Key Client accounts

Business and Financial Management:
  • Accountable for top line revenue growth, the BCPL also supports the BCOL in meeting established targets net revenue, gross margin, and operating income targets in the BC
  • Manages BC MBD budget to plan, in coordination with RGLs
  • Responsible for managing client and pursuit budgets in the BC; monitors spend, closes expired or unneeded job numbers, communicates status
  • Identifies/maintains annual list of conferences, trade shows, and sponsorships for the region

Practice:
  • Responsible for driving project delivery and excellence
  • Leads or assigns responsibility for oversight of project delivery, QAQC, discipline excellence and technical quality, documents quality and best practices in the execution of work
  • Review contracts, fees and proposals on local and large pursuits, in partnership with our risk management team

People Leadership:
  • Support BC Leadership with developing, attracting, engaging and retaining top talent
  • Establish employee connectedness to leadership by interfacing frequently with employees
  • Partner with BC Leadership by conducting BC-wide meetings to communicate the vision, business strategy and progress against applicable action plans
  • Support the overall talent management lifecycle including career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development for the BC

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong business development skills, including significant experience developing new clients and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, Requests for Qualifications
  • Diverse design and project management experience in the following markets: municipal, county or state infrastructure, private development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization, coordination, leadership, team-building and managerial skills
  • Travel to other offices as well as to project sites may be required

Key Performance Indicators
  • BC contribution to regional business plan sales, growth, backlog, and spend targets.
  • Conference, trade show, and sponsorship budget to plan
  • 100% of competitive opportunities entered in Pipeline with a go/no-go assessment prior to submittal
  • Coordinate and lead monthly sales leadership meetings
  • Directly recruit staff across all levels needed to meet current and future business needs
  • 3 to 5 client touch points per week
  • Conduct 3 client feedback surveys per year
  • Actively participate in at least one industry or trade organization
  • Meet minimum HSSE requirements (training, leading indicators)

Education and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent required
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years' relevant experience, leadership, financial management, business development and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
