About the Job:
The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the efficient and effective fulfillment of materials needed for the manufacture of multiple medical devices with special focus on supplier development in the areas of quality, cost, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Management and Sourcing:
- Locates, qualifies, and manages suppliers to ensure continuous supply of materials that fulfill Quality and Production requirements.
- Negotiates effectively with suppliers in support of established sourcing strategies and in a manner that optimizes the collective value of the customer-supplier relationship.
- Pursues cost-improvement opportunities to achieve best value for the company without negatively impacting quality specifications.
- Monitors supplier performance and develops/implements plans to facilitate supplier efforts to eliminate/reduce areas of risk and optimize total value.
- Ensures the effective management and communication of all changes to or from suppliers.
- Uses the ERP system effectively and maintains/modifies material planning data to optimize service, cost, and inventory.
- Monitors and validates demand for products and materials and ensures signals from the ERP system reflect anticipated requirements correctly and effectively.
- Partners with members of the Quality and Engineering teams along with appropriate supplier points of contact to disposition and implement effective and time-sensitive corrective actions resolve non-conformances.
- Monitors email effectively to identify organizational needs for the procurement of expense materials necessary to support all aspect of the business.
- Determines production and repair requirements and places/maintains purchase orders with approved supplies for required materials.
- Optimizes inventory levels by updating ERP planning parameters, partnering with key suppliers and adjusting supplier delivery schedules as requirements change.
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes data to develop comprehensive and logical plans of action geared toward optimizing Key Process Indicators such as Supplier Quality Performance, On Time and In-Full Supplier Delivery, Purchase Price Variance, and Inventory Turns.
- Able to extract and combine data from various sources of information and leverage the use of analytical tools such as Pareto Analyses, VLook-up function, and Pivot Tables in order to summarize the data effectively and to identify important trends, risks, and/or opportunities.
- Works effectively as a member of a cross-functional team comprised of Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Design Engineers, Product Managers, Sales & Marketing, key members from the Supplier's organization as well as others to find and execute solutions.
- Participates on project development teams as required.
- Reviews Document Change Orders (DCOs), and takes appropriate actions to insure proper implementation.
- Adheres to company policies, Legal practices, CGMP, and ISO requirements.
- May be responsible for the timely and effective monitoring and updating of portions of the company's Quality Management System relating to Supply Chain operations.
- Communicates requirements with Production, Receiving, and Receiving Inspection and expedites to insure timely availability of parts.
- Works as a member of the Material Review Board to resolve product/part discrepancies and facilitates/coordinates corrective actions between Engineering, QA, and suppliers to prevent reoccurrence of part/product discrepancies.
- Plans production requirements for materials requiring outside (Sub-c) processing and coordinates outside processing activities (heat treat, laser mark, passivate, anodize, sterilization, etc.).
A bachelor's degree in an applicable field such as Business Management, Finance, Systems Engineering, or equivalent is desired. Individuals without a bachelor's degree must have at least three years of experience working in a fast-paced supply chain role.
Exposure to medical device industry and APICS certifications preferred.
