Purpose:

The R&D Technology Development Manager provides support to overall Zeon business through application of chemistry, engineering and polymer science knowledge for the development of new products, enhancement of existing products and various process improvement initiatives in production facilities.

Job Functions/Accountabilities:

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Plan and design research projects of all sizes related to Zeon's products and processes
  • Plan, conduct and direct complex assignments; resolve complex technical problems requiring broad application of knowledge
  • Contribute to and direct the preparation, presentation and follow-up of research proposals
  • Develop or direct the development of research findings, draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Prepare and present progress results and issue research reports to management
  • Work on a wide range of problems where casual relationships are difficult to establish, little or no precedence exists, and the use of innovative thinking is regularly required
  • Collaborate with other Zeon scientists and interact with technical staff, production personnel, consultants and management
  • Exchange information with other scientists outside Zeon through professional organizations
  • Utilize chemistry, engineering and polymer science knowledge for synthesis, as well as process improvements both in lab and factory settings
  • Recommend recipe updates and procedure changes as warranted
  • Impart knowledge and serve as a mentor of chemistry, process and interactions to other Zeon employees
  • Initiate and carry out appropriate self-development courses
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the performance of our facility's operation and ensure that customers' (both internal and external) needs are met.
  • Compliance with all Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures
  • Compliance with all company quality operating systems
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management


Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:
  • Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, or Polymer Science is preferred.
  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, or Polymer Science along with additional related experience may be considered.


Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a related role is required.


Special Qualifications:
  • Ability to operate with considerable latitude for unreviewed action or decision is required.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization is required.
  • Excellent vernal and written communications skills are critical.
