We’re searching for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.In this role, you willThe Hardware Product Engineering (HPE) Mechanical Design team is responsible for the development of all custom hardware modules in the Aurora Driver Kit (ADK) including Compute modules, Sensor Pods, and Lidar.The ideal candidate should have experience (4+ years) in bringing high-volume electromechanical products to market, ideally in the automotive or consumer electronics industries. We need someone with strong fundamental mechanical skills and experience designing for harsh environments.This role will be on the Computer Product Engineering (CPE) team, which specializes in mechanical design of automotive electronics modules and integrations. In this role, the candidate would be prototyping and designing automotive components and assemblies for mass-production. They will also be supporting existing fleet designs with troubleshooting and sustained engineering activities.Required QualificationsBS / MS in Mechanical Engineering and 4+ years of industry experience in Mechanical DesignProficient in CAD design - Catia preferred, not requiredProficient in 2D drawing creation using GD&TPrior industrial experience with High Volume/Contractor Manufacturers, including DFM/DFA, build support, and ECO processes.Experience designing for harsh environments including Shock/Vibration and temperature cycling with long term durabilityElectro-mechanical exposure to connector selection, harness specification, and EMI/EMC shielding requirementsExperience designing active (air or liquid cooling) thermal solutions for electro-mechanical devicesExperience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of pre-production (or post-production, we don’t judge) fleet issues and resolution.Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisionsWillingness to travel within the US 3-4 times a year and internationally 2-3 times a yearDesirable QualificationsExperience with high power, high thermal density, and high speed electronics (for example, server / networking design, avionics design, etc).Experience designing for mechanical control outlines (MCO) of printed circuit board assembliesExperience with designing to Automotive standards, like ISO 16750 and similarExperience going through an automotive PPAP processBackground in electronics module packaging for integrated assembliesExposure or participation in a DFMEA exerciseThe base salary range for this position is $156,000.00-$234,000.00 per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
