Your Opportunity
The role of a Structural Engineer is to work independently on smaller projects and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The Structural Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for projects such as bridges and other transportation structures.
They will provide immediate supervision and guidance to a group of employees, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals for accuracy and completeness; and maintaining schedules.
They will work on plans and designs of structural engineering projects such as bridges, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, subway stations, railroad infrastructure and public spaces. Provides resources and schedules in response to specified completion dates and technical applications. Prepares proposals and cost estimates and evaluates all project progress and recommends changes, if needed, in final procedures.

B.ASc. or B.Eng. in Civil/Structural Engineering, with strong interest and experience in structures, particularly bridges
P.Eng. status and minimum 4 years of proven experience in design using Canadian codes and design standards
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Act as lead designer for small and medium-sized engineering assignments, with the intent to develop skills towards a future project manager/technical lead role for larger projects
- Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction and postconstruction review
- Coordinate work with other disciplines including highway/road, electrical, drainage and environmental planning
- Analysis and evaluation of appropriate design solutions and design of transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundations
- Direct CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables before submission to the client
- Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents and cost estimates
- Provide tender evaluations and/or construction engineering services
- Work within assigned project budgets and schedules
- Mentor junior staff concerning project work
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Thorough understanding of all phases of project document production
- Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions
- Proficient in AutoCAD and any other relevant design software
- Knowledge of calculations performed by software
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and review agencies
- Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others
- Ability to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and various structures
- Interest in working both in the office and the field environment
- Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while doing bridge inspection work
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle
- Strong computer skills, including experience with CAD and SAP2000, CSiBridge, SFRAME
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Able to work in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multi-disciplined projects
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to mentor the technical development of others
- Works well with minimal direct supervision
- Exercises independent judgment
