Bloomberg, New York, NY

Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock - from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes.

The Company Financials team provides our clients with fast and accurate market-moving data so they can stay on top of their game: broker estimates, financial filings, and any other dataset that is useful to understand financial performance in the markets. Our products run on intelligence and industry-specific insights provided by the industry teams. We combine financial modeling, industry expertise, data management, and technical skills to curate critical metrics and drive insights from our data.

We are dedicated to crafting a best-in-class financial analysis and modeling product while constantly looking to enhance and expand our existing offering through a deep understanding of the markets we operate in, the sectors we cover, and our clients current and future needs.

What's the Role?

The Company Financials Healthcare team owns the data management and analysis for the sector, managing quality and timely delivery of content, while also growing our data offering. The team is looking for a Data Engineer that can make sure we get the best use of our existing healthcare data as well as leading the technical implementation of onboarding new datasets.

In this role you will be diving deep into complex healthcare datasets - requiring you to understand the data requirements, specifying the modeling needs of datasets, using existing techstack for efficient data ingestion workflows, and data pipelining. You will implement technical solutions using programming, machine learning, AI, and human-in-the-loop approaches to make sure our healthcare data is fit-for-purpose for our clients.

We'll trust you to:
  • Develop data-driven strategies, balancing the best of technical, product, financial and industry knowledge, and work with our engineering and product departments to craft solutions
  • Own the end-to-end data ingestion of healthcare datasets including company disclosed, alternative data sets, and/or primary data sets
  • Communicate and collaborate across team members and complementary teams including Engineering, Product, and Bloomberg Intelligence
  • Model healthcare data for distribution in Bloomberg's query languages, products, and Business Intelligence
  • Develop data quality strategies for the healthcare datasets and implement scalable, lasting solutions
  • Stay engaged with healthcare industry and product developments by owning the data coverage of 5-8 companies
  • Develop interconnected data models that enable analysis across datasets and develop statistical analysis
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Quantitative Finance, or a related technical degree, preferably in combination with a Finance or business field
  • 4+ years of programming experience in a development or production environment
  • Deep sector knowledge of BioTech, Medical Devices, Hospitals, or other related sub-sectors of the healthcare industry
  • Proficiency using scripting languages (preferably Python) to query and interrogate datasets
  • A solid grasp of data modeling principles and technologies such as data modeling, advanced statistical analysis, data ingestion, data enrichment and data integration
  • Working understanding of healthcare data ontologies and basic understanding of semantic modeling
  • Experience profiling new datasets, and implementing high volume, low-latency ETL pipelines
  • A passion for data and a demonstrated drive to set and uphold standard methodologies for data quality as a domain of data management
  • Knowledge of financial statement modeling and market penetration modeling
  • Understanding of quality assurance and quality control from a data and product perspective
  • Good interpersonal skills across various partner groups - Engineering, Data Analysts, Product Managers, and senior management
  • Proven track record of effective project management and a customer focused mentality
  • Solid understanding of Bloomberg techstack, such as BAIT, DFR, and completion of a Data Automated Services course
We'd love to see:
  • Advanced degree/Master's degree in a Finance or STEM subject and/or CFA designation (or working towards it)
  • Experience in Bloomberg Company Financials products, Bloomberg terminal fluency, and/or Bloomberg data workflows
  • Experience using data visualization tools such as QlikSense and Tableau
  • Familiarity with use cases of advanced statistical methods such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Natural language Processing
  • Experience designing optimal database structures
