Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital is looking for experienced ER veterinarians to join our growing team! Mass Vet is an elite tertiary facility in the Boston area practicing exceptional medicine. Our hospital is rooted in training, teaching, and collaboration. You will have ample opportunity to grow your knowledge base and skills by working cohesively with many specialty departments. We have several types of positions available to suit your interests and would also welcome a discussion regarding part-time or hybrid positions.

All positions offer the following:
  • Very generous salary with voluntary picked up shifts paid as a bonus + hourly
  • Sign-on bonus available
  • 3 weeks PTO to start for new employees with carryover allowed
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, Continuing Education allowance and time, professional dues, personal pet care discounts, uniform allowance, and 401K with employer match


Receiving Doctor:
  • Average 3 receiving shifts per week (12 per 4-week schedule)
  • 8 hour scheduled shifts: Receive cases for 7 hours
  • Primary responsibilities include stabilization and workup of patients presenting to the ER. Once a patient is rounded over at the end of the shift, there is no management of hospitalized patients.


Overnight Doctor:
  • Flexible options with 9, 10, or 12 overnight shifts per 4-week schedule
  • 2 overnight doctors scheduled every night (along with swing receiving doctors)
  • Primary responsibilities include management of hospitalized patients and receiving new cases after swing shifts end


Receiving doctor with interest in pursuing specialty career:
  • 10 ER receiving shifts (as described above) and 6 shifts shadowing in your chosen specialty of interest (per 4-week schedule)


We are also flexible to support a hybrid role with a mixture of ER receiving and overnight shifts.

  • Average ER doctor tenure of 5+ years
  • ER department comprised of 35 ER clinicians and Criticalists - and always growing!
  • Comprehensive specialty services including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Oncology, Anesthesiology and Critical Care. Many services are available 7 days a week
  • Part-time onsite Social worker available for clients and staff
  • Access to cutting edge diagnostics and treatments including digital cytology, therapeutic plasma exchange, dialysis, high flow oxygen, ventilation, SUB placement, interventional radiology and more
  • Robust House Officer Program includes Radiology residents, Neurology interns, and Surgery residents
  • ER Immerse program - new training program designed to provide training and mentorship for veterinarians looking to excel in the field of emergency medicine in lieu of an internship or residency
  • Frequent in-house RACE approved CE opportunities
  • Ethos Compounding Pharmacy located within MVRH
