Surgical Oncologist ( General Surgeon with expertise in Hepatobiliary and General Surgical Carcinomas) Bon Secours St. Mary s Hospital Richmond, VA Position Overview: We re seeking a highly skilled General Surgeon with expertise in Surgical Oncology, focusing on hepatobiliary surgery and other general surgical carcinomas. The ideal candidate will excel in both general and oncologic surgical procedures, including the management of cancers affecting the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, as well as other common carcinomas such as colorectal, gastric, and esophageal cancers. This role requires a commitment to comprehensive cancer care, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and contributions to clinical and academic advancements in surgical oncology. Key Responsibilities: Surgical Care: * Perform a wide range of general surgical procedures, including appendectomies, hernia repairs, cholecystectomies, and other elective or emergency surgeries. * Specialize in oncologic surgeries for hepatobiliary cancers, including liver resections, bile duct surgeries, and pancreatic operations. * Manage other common surgical carcinomas, such as colorectal resections, gastric surgeries, and esophageal cancer surgeries. * Develop and implement individualized surgical plans for patients, integrating general and specialized oncologic techniques. Patient Management: * Conduct thorough pre-operative evaluations, including patient histories, physical examinations, imaging studies, and diagnostic tests for a wide range of carcinomas. * Provide expert post-operative care, managing complications, ensuring optimal recovery, and delivering patient education about cancer treatments and prevention strategies. * Collaborate with oncologists, gastroenterologists, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive care for patients with various cancers. Collaboration and Communication: * Work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team, including medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nursing staff, to ensure integrated and effective patient care. * Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and expected outcomes. Clinical and Academic Contributions: * Engage in research and clinical trials focusing on various carcinomas, including hepatobiliary and general surgical malignancies, to advance surgical techniques and improve patient outcomes. * Participate in teaching and mentoring of surgical residents and medical students, and contribute to educational programs, seminars, and publications.
