This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr. Geologist with the potential to work out of any WSP office, including Atlanta, GA; Kansas City, MO; and Dallas, TX. Be involved in projects with our Federal Environmental Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
  • Perform contaminated site remedial investigations (including planning document development) and develop conceptual site models, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and other documents required of CERCLA and RCRA projects.
  • Manage projects technically and administratively.
  • Establish presence in the Federal environmental industry by developing strategies to ensure growth, identifying opportunities, and overseeing SF330 proposal development.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a broad network of internal and external clients.
  • Supervise and mentor staff.
  • Prepare and implement typical planning documents, including QAPPs, Workplans, and site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Prepare subcontractor scopes of work and procure subcontractors.
  • Lead site investigation, subsurface boring and trenching oversight, and monitoring of groundwater and extraction well installations.
  • Provide guidance with data collection efforts for extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil and sediment sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater, surface water, and stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.
  • Prepare more complex data and visualizations such as soil analyses, groundwater modeling, maps geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations.
  • Ensure regulatory requirement compliance pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports such as Remedial Investigation reports, and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, remedy, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience working as a Geologist.
  • Active Professional Geologist registration (or have qualifications to obtain).
  • Proven contract/project management experience with USACE and/or USEPA and/or experience working on other Department of Defense projects (Navy/NAVFAC experience preferred.) Project management experience with may be small to mid-level Task Order projects.
  • Proven track record of successful project and client management, and strong client relationships.
  • Excellent verbal skills with strong writing and organizational skills, a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within groups.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Must be able to occasionally work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Strong understanding of relevant State and Federal regulations with specific and knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Proficiency with geological research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
  • Effective at coordinating and assertively directing others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS in Geology, or related field.
  • Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and other similar drilling methods.
  • Experience with UST investigations and remediation including investigation of hydro-carbon impacted sites.
  • Experience with evaluation of vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas per DTSC and EPA guidelines.
  • Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and/or soil gas wells.
  • Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.
  • Proficiency with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., and mitigation programs.
