We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team – one that makes better decisions, drives innovation and delivers better business results.Title and SummaryLead Software EngineerOverviewThis role is part of the Software Development Group within the Mastercard Payment Gateway Services Division in St Louis and collaborates with internal customers and colleagues across the globe.As a Lead Software Engineer you will be a hands on technical lead for the Continuing Engineering team which is responsible for Level 3 production support for a number of business critical payment gateways.• Are you an experienced leader who is passionate about managing the end-to-end resolution of customer issues under tight timeframes in a complex software environment?• Enjoy investigating and solving complex software issues that require critical thinking and inventive approaches?• Do you have a strong Java development background and a desire to remain hands on?• Have you led and mentored a team of software professionals of diverse skills and experience?• Are you able to pick up domain knowledge and software technologies quickly and efficiently?Role• Serve as the lead engineer on a Continuing Engineering team to deliver Level 3 support to high availability production systems deployed globally.• Investigate issues and implement code fixes in large scale Java software applications.• Actively mentor a small team of developers by providing coaching and training to grow the team’s capability.• Participate in the management of priority, scope, schedule and quality of software deliverables through collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders.• Actively contribute knowledge to the wider software engineering groups and promote continuous improvement of processes and practices.• Provide detailed updates on customer issues to stakeholders.All About You• You are passionate about reliability, scalability, security, maintainability and performance and have experience in a commercial environment where this is essential.• You have recent hands on experience with Java software development including Spring, JavaScript, Jenkins, git, splunk/kibana, Oracle/Postgres/Cassandra or equivalents.• You have a strong customer focus and are driven to deliver excellent, timely outcomes for customers, while also adhering to product guidelines and protocols.• Demonstrated experience in supporting and maintaining large, distributed and mission-critical systems in a product development environment is essential.• Experience in dealing with difficult situations and making decisions with a sense of urgency.• Can manage multiple conflicting priorities in parallel in a pragmatic way.• Demonstrated previous experience in leading a team or have demonstrated the ability to lead and are looking to take the next step in your career.• Enjoy working collaboratively to influence and achieve outcomes.• Have a passion for continuous improvement – making things better and faster.• Demonstrate a good understanding of distributed software architectures and the challenges they pose for supportability.• You are self-motivated and play an active role in your professional development and skills growth and enjoy learning new systems and technologies.• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience.Mastercard is an inclusive equal opportunity employer that considers applicants without regard to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disabled or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
