Job Summary:
Conducts experimental research lab work and/or assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). May complete mathematical calculations, and/or computer tasks and/or assist in judging validity of data. Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices. The main research scope of Zhang lab is to understand how genetic and epigenetic factors orchestrate to facilitate blood malignancies. The candidate is expected to apply a diverse range of molecular, immunological, histological, and cellular skills and use animal models (mouse and xenograft). The intended start date for this position is on or after June 17, 2024.
Specific Responsibilities:
Molecular Biology:
- DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression Southern, Northern, Western blotting
- PCR, RT-PCR
- Plasmid preparation
- Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
- Recombinant virus production and purification
Cellular Biology:
- Cell culture, cell isolation
- Functional studies
- Transfection
Histology:
- Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
- Immunohistochemistry
- Microscopy
Immunology:
- Flow cytometry
- ELISA, Elispot assay
- Cytokine assay
- Antibody production and purification
Animal:
- Husbandry
- Breeding and screening transgenic mice
- Dissections
- Blood collection
- Surgical procedures
- Database management of colony
Other (please specify):
- Assistance in lab management duties including acquiring quotes and purchases
Administration
- Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data.
- Manipulates, interprets &/or presents results.
- Prepares charts & graphs for presentations & publications.
- Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
- Completes portions of grant applications, manuscripts & publications.
- Finance
- Tracks & summarizes lab supply expenses.
- Verifies accuracy of invoices.
- Orders &/or maintains inventory of reagent, mice &/or lab supplies.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
- A bachelor's degree with a pertinent major with at least one year research experience in a wet lab setting or equivalent
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Basic laboratory skills including solid basic math and chemistry knowledge are required. The candidate is expected to be capable of using pipettors (including serological pipettors), following protocols to make buffers, assemble PCR or other molecular reactions; capable of scale-up/down the existing protocol according to reaction numbers; capable of handling mice or capable of learning mouse handling and other related techniques. It is also expected that the candidate has a positive attitude at work and is with excellent work ethics. The candidate is also anticipated to be capable of working with flexibilities in hours and deadlines. Excellent bookkeeping skills (specially, attention to deal and organization skills) and communication skills are essential for this position.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $19.80-$20.59 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
