Your role in helping us shape the future:

In this position you will have the opportunity to leverage your strengths and skills to support just about every aspect of company operations, including content management for the usnews.com website, data ranking products such as Best Colleges/Grad schools and Best Hospitals, and other business applications.

U.S. News & World Report is looking for a full-time DevOps Engineer to modernize, secure and administer our cloud infrastructure to help deliver dynamic, data-driven products for one of the globe's most trusted brands.

Are you up to the challenge?
  • You will develop a complete understanding of our web application platforms and play a key role in modernizing our stack.
  • You will be part of a team responsible for all of the organization's code and production deployment pipelines, infrastructure, security, network and development environments.
  • The majority of our development effort involves building & maintaining web applications on Python, Node & Java.
  • You should be able to onboard new applications to CICD and optimize our current pipelines
  • You will work on infrastructure-as-code to manage cloud technologies as well as different SAAS providers. You will work with AWS, GCP, Akamai, New Relic and more.
  • You will help configure and maintain Linux development environment with a configuration management tool and provide support to developer issues
  • You will help to respond to some common incidents in our production environment


Position Requirements

You should definitely have:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field required or equivalent work experience.
  • Three year's experience working in a development, operations, or similar support role; experience including designing and maintaining public cloud production-ready workloads (AWS, GCP, Azure), Linux based systems (e.g. Debian, CentOS, RHEL) and a programming language (Python, Java, Javascript/Node.js, Ruby); and managing security specific services for either infrastructure or code.
  • Experience working on a multi-person software development team with robust deployment tooling


It would be nice if you had:
  • Architecture patterns of public global web-based applications and underlying technologies
  • Infrastructure as code (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • CI and orchestration systems (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Containerization & Orchestration experience (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, ECS)
  • Configuration Management Experience (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Docker)
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Cloud or security certifications are a plus

  • In New York City, the anticipated base salary for this position is $85,000 to $110,000 The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
