About the role

Relay, a subsidiary of Wonder, is revolutionizing delivery logistics by optimizing courier routing in urban and suburban markets. We have built a robust platform to improve delivery efficiency and accuracy, supporting a key metric-deliveries per hour-while also working to reduce overall delivery times at Wonder but also across all of our client companies, resulting in over 40k daily deliveries.

As a Staff Engineer, you will be a key member of the core platform team at Relay. Your primary responsibility will be backend development to enhance our logistics software that optimizes deliveries per hour for our couriers. This role is focused on carrying out a platform for our courier operations team to use. You will work closely with geospatial data, real-time location tracking, and delivery-related data to ensure our platform continues to improve both efficiency and delivery times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain logistics software that routes couriers through complex urban and suburban environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize our core platform's delivery metrics, focusing on improving deliveries per hour while reducing delivery times.
  • Implement and enhance capabilities around job offers, geospatial data, real-time location tracking, and courier performance.
  • Work closely with other backend engineers to build a robust and scalable platform that ensures smooth operations.
  • Continuously refine system architecture and code to optimize performance and support future growth.

Tech Stack:
  • Primary Technologies: Node.js, RabbitMQ, Websockets, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Python
  • Additional Tools/Frameworks: React-native, Terraform, Jenkins

The experience you have
  • Proven experience in backend development, ideally with Node.js.
  • Strong experience with databases such as MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
  • Understanding of geospatial data processing and real-time tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools like Terraform and CI/CD pipelines like Jenkins.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and tackle complex logistical challenges.
  • Strong analytical mindset, focused on optimizing key metrics such as deliveries per hour.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working in logistics, delivery routing, or a related field.
  • Expertise in working with message brokers such as RabbitMQ and Websockets for real-time systems
  • Exposure to Python for backend services or automation scripting.

Base Salary: $239,500 (plus equity)
