Job Description

SPEC is seeking a Project Manager (PM) to support our Refining & Chemicals Division. The ideal candidate will have broad engineering and design knowledge, using innovative methods for successful project execution. The PM will interact directly with client PMs and personnel, as well as SPEC disciplines navigating the challenges of exciting and fast paced projects. Typical projects are single to multi-disciplined with engineering budgets ranging from $10k to $1M. Responsibilities include ensuring project profitability, quality, safety, client satisfaction, managing available resources, project scope, schedule, budget and contractual requirements. PMs must exhibit strong communication skills, understand planning and scheduling functions, and be knowledgeable about contract administration, liability, and safety issues.

Summary

SPEC Services is seeking a business minded project manager who can manage multi-disciplined projects locally and regionally. Applicant must be able to leverage their own personal strengths, capabilities, and experience in executing/managing projects while also working closely with and leveraging the specialized capabilities of the SPEC planning, engineering, design, procurement, and project controls team.

Location and Work Schedule
  • Applicant is ideally located within the Los Angeles or Orange County areas.
  • SPEC works a 9/80 weekly schedule with Tuesday/Thursday in the office and Monday, Wednesday and working Fridays from home in order to foster the appropriate collaboration and work culture. At times, client or project meetings may alter this schedule. If desired, the SPEC office is available to employees to work in office daily.
  • Regular site visits for project execution are crucial to applicant's success.
  • The majority of SPEC's projects are located in Southern California, although there are times when projects are located out of the area.

Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Project Management and System Planning
    • Define scope, approach, and facilitate solutions for projects
    • Assist in developing the right solution; system planning
    • Manage several multidiscipline projects simultaneously
    • Effectively plan and execute projects on schedule, within budget
    • Effectively communicate project deliverables and status
    • Manage project risks
    • Manage changes to Scope, Schedule, Budget and Execution Plan
    • Manage client expectations
    • Develop and lead project presentations/meetings
    • Manage project quality assurance and control
    • Proposal, schedule, and cost estimate development
  • Business Development
    • Maintain existing client satisfaction
    • Cultivate new client contacts
    • Identify client projects and needs; consult on approach and solutions
    • Coordinate and facilitate business development events with new/existing clients
    • Attend business development conferences and industry events
    • Generate new work within existing client base

Education, Work Experience, & Training:
  • B.A. / B.S. (Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical/Civil Engineer degree is preferred) or strong design and construction background in the refining/chemicals field
  • 5+ years of work experience in related refining/oil & gas field
  • Competence using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Experience in small to medium-sized projects
  • Previous experience in a consultant environment is a plus
  • Beneficial Certifications (preferred, but not required): Project Management Professional (PMP) & Professional Engineering (PE) License

Competitive compensation and benefits package

Salary Range: $95k to $170k Annual
