Project Air Quality Specialist - Portland or Lake Oswego, OR

Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc, (MFA) is seeking a full-time mid-level Project Air Quality Specialist to work out of our Portland or Lake Oswego, OR office. As our ideal candidate you will have experience applying your knowledge of air regulations to develop solutions for complex permitting and compliance projects. Every day, you will work with a talented team to collaboratively solve technical and regulatory challenges, grow strong relationships with existing and new clients, and grow both yours and MFA's broader understanding of air quality permitting.

As a Project Air Quality Specialist, you will...
  • Provide industrial clients best in class service for air quality permitting and ongoing compliance.
  • Manage all components of air quality construction permits, including regulatory applicability analysis, detailed emissions inventory development, dispersion modeling, and control technology assessments.
  • Work closely with clients and develop strong relationships to understand their needs and develop solutions to achieve client's expectations on scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Perform air dispersion modeling analyses to support both criteria pollutant and air toxics risk assessments.
  • Manage proposals, scopes, schedules, and budgets for project work.
  • Maintain detailed quality control of all work products.
  • Support and lead client and regulatory agency discussions and negotiations.
  • Work independently and solicit input from mentors.
  • Develop a broad air quality skillset by managing projects for a diverse client base.


To thrive in this role, you must have...
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or related field with applicable coursework.
  • 7 + years of experience in air quality permitting and compliance including regulatory interpretation, emissions inventory development, air dispersion modeling, and pollution control evaluation.
  • Experience managing multiple air quality permitting and compliance projects.
  • Experience working with the AERMOD air dispersion modeling program.
  • General understanding of human health risk assessments.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to effectively use Excel for data analysis.
  • Experience working with industrial facilities and compliance challenges.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with experience communicating complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to solve problems factoring in risks and benefits in decision-making.
  • Dedication to client deadlines and willingness to work overtime, as necessary.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including, but not limited to, lifting, use of respiratory equipment and other protective gear, climbing affixed ladders, and traversing rough terrain.

Compensation Range: $87,000.00 - $110,000.00
